Default Water Colors

I'm aggravated at my car right now.

No, it's running right. I just washed it and it just irks the hell out of me how I have paint chips. My car is a little less than a year old, and I have four chips on the front end of it. Three of them are very small, but the fourth one, on the front of the hood, is not so small.

Now, I could blame this on just having rocks bouce up and hit it, thus, causing the chips. However, I have a Mitsubishi, which has seen MANY more miles on it, along with tons more rocks, and you can't hardly find a rock chip on it.

I don't know what dodge uses for paint, but whatever it is, it must not be that thick or something. I just can't understand how the paint could flake so easily. Maybe it's an american car thing or something. I'll probably, once I get a few more on it, take it to a body shop and have them touch them up.

It might just be my car. You know, just a poor paint batch or something. Any of the rest of you have this problem?

Absolutely! I didn't even have 2500 miles on my car when I noticed several rock chips on the front end, one of which was about the size of a pencil eraser! As far as what Dodge uses on their vehicles it probably isn't the best paint on the market. Where most of your import cars use a paint such as Standox or Sikkens your American cars are probably more like PPG or DuPont. I hate to say it but even build quality of the American car these days is lacking. Take the fit and finish of say a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry versus like a Ford Focus or Chevy Impala. You can tell a world of difference. Interior, exterior styling, dependability, etc.......... I'm not knocking American car companies and saying that they make bad products, I mean look at the new Z06! It's a Lamborghini killer for at LEAST half the price. The American companies just need to pay more attention to their competitors and step it up a notch.................except for when it comes to the the SRT-4 of course!!!

I've got one small chip on the driver side front fender from when I dropped a screwdriver on it. Used some Dodge touch-up paint and it's virtually invisible. The rest of the car has no chip damage.

These cars have VERY little paint on them to "save weight". Open your doors and REALLY look at your door jambs in the light, the frame isn't even painted.

My front bumper has been repainted twice.....but the whole car will be as well. Its not the paint, its the lack thereof.

Times 2 on the lack of paint. Just give it another 2 years and see how badly the paint has dulled and faded (especially on the red ones). Garage kept ones will give you another year or two.

This little thin paint thing....is it exclusive to just the SRT-4, or is this something that dodge has with all their vehicles, because it would sure suck if you bought a new challenger and the paint were chipping off of it.

Exclusive to the SRT-4 from what I've seen in the body world of it all.

Like I said they skimped on paint to make them "lighter" and to fit into their "price quota"

Since I have a black SRT you can see right to the primer. In the door jambs, trunk lid (right next to the brake light) and on the hood I can see alot of fish eyes that go right to the primer. Ma` Mopar must have used one can of Krylon on my my car!!
