Default Check Engine Light and Running Hot

So my check engine light came on today, at 22295 miles. Is this just a warning for some service? Or should i actually worry right away.

Also, how hot does everyone's car run? It seems that lately mine has been running hotter than usual, but not to high, just wondering what some of the averages were???

flick the key on and off 3 times and see what code comes up... then go from there

mine usually runs just under the middle line on the temp gauge

Mine stays just under the mid-point if I keep moving. If I get stuck in traffic, it sometimes hits the mid point but never goes over it.....

I'm in High Desert (Palmdale-Lancaster, CA). The temps here about 2 weeks ago were in the 115 plus. And my temp has climbed passed the mid mark. In traffic in has gone about 2 to 3 needle withs passed the mid-point.
I have only 4200 miles on my `05.

If you read your manual, normal operating temperature can range anywhere from the line above cold to the line right below warm. Normal operating temperature when I had a stock thermostat was around 200-210 degrees. But my guess is something else may be your issue. Flick your key as stated above and get us the code.

Alright, I will get the code.

It seemed like before I made any mods, it always ran a little under the half way mark, now it seems to ALWAYS run right at it, or a little above. . .

Hmmmm. . . I'll get that code tonight

i found in the haynes manual it means "shorted condition in downstream oxygen sensor heater control feedback sensing circuit". so i would guess that your O2 sensor is bad(downstream is the one that's in the cat). i would ask the dealer about it because that should still be under warranty. your cat might be bad which caused the sensor to go bad, but i would ask the dealer to see what they say.

Yeah I have that stupid code too, mine **** the bed. Common problem with all vehicles. Just have the o2 sensor replaced and the code will go away.

And the operating temperature you're describing is 100% normal. No worries there.

Thanks everyone!!!!

Also, it seems to be running a little "sticky" if you guys know what I mean, at almost 23k miles, I really haven't done much besides oil changes, anything else I should do??? Change the tranny fluid, or something like that???
