"When Dodge first announced the Neon-based SRT-4, enthusiasts were skeptical. They just couldn't get around the fact that it was based on a Neon. Then, the SRT-4 came out, and it kicked everyone's tail. Highly regarded sport compact cars, such as the Honda Civic Si, Ford Focus SVT, Nissan Sentra SE-R, and Acura RSX S-Type were reduced to road kill. Even the vaunted Subaru WRX (in non-STi form) can't match the 13.9 second quarter-mile elapsed time of the SRT-4. Running 13s in the quarter mile is quite a feat for a muscle car. For a four-cylinder sedan under $21,000, it is mind-boggling. It's now been close to two years since the SRT-4 was announced, and no one is snickering now. During this short time, the SRT-4 reputation has come a long way."

That's a great article. Most of the more well know rags like Motor Trend simple hate it and will rag on it just because it isn't foreign. If this were a Honda it would have been their car of the year.[:@]

well yeah look at the Civic Si how much does that cost, $19,000 if I'm not mistaken, all that for such liitle performance compare to the SRT-4.

Yeah, I don't even read MT any more due to its obvious bias. Road & Track and Car and Driver are much better....

Road and Track covers alot of O/S car makers but they also have alot on the classic race/sports cars of the 50s/60s/70s....C&D is playing to the market as most car magazines are nowdays seeing that such a large chunk of cars come from O/S or at least O/S based companies.....C&D did do a pretty good write up on the SRT-4 in their April 2004 issue though....[&:]

Yeah, I have that issue. I copied that page for display at the car shows with a dyno comparison of the top cars in the same price range, nothing else is even close.
