Makes perfect sense Roadrunner.

Rust on rotors don't count, but you knew that. LOL.

Still want one.

sorry about my attitude, but i'm sick of hearing about chryslers crappy quality.the truth is, is thatchrysler's quality has come a long way. last year, belvidere assembly received the highest improvement in quality in the corp. i take great pride in my quality work and you sounded like you were questioning everything about the srt's quality.i agree, we have a long way to go.but we are closing the gap quickly.my stepdad has one of the first neon's built.i looked under that and it had no more rust than you described.not bad for a 10 year old car from illinois.i will mention your concerns to the management and the engineers.by the way, anyone looking to order a srt-4 after the first of the year, they are going to offer a "kicker" stereo option. this will include a 300 watt stereo along with akicker sub woofer in the trunk. i'll let you know what response i get from management about the rust.

Many thanks ibuildem. I didn't mean to ruffle your fur buddy. I completely understand you being defensive about the product you are producing. Chrysler has taken alot of flack in the last few years

I wasn't pointing out the rust issue just for a excuse to trash the srt-4. I was merely surprised and even more surprised at peoples atitude about it. Like I said I think the srt-4 is one bad *****. I drove it and fell in love with it. I've never wanted a american car in my life. But I want this one.

I well be eagerly awaiting the response you receive from management about the rust issue. Who, knows maybe someone in management might be impressed with your eye for detail, and having your fingers on the pulse of the consumer market.

Your first response to me reminded me of a interview I read about Brian Bosworth. The outrageous football player who turned movie star. Anyways, when he was in college the jocks would get hand feed summer jobs. Brian, got a job working in a car manufactoring plant, forget which. Anyways, he said for fun he and some of the other guys would take a string and tie a small bolt to the end of it and then tie it somewhere inside the car where it could hang but still swing around and hit metal. Of course the end result was someone would buy a Bosworth special and have a strange knocking noise every time they turned a corner. Real funny...NOT.

The fact ibuildem is concerned about quality makes me rest a bit easier. Don't have to worry about a Bosworth special coming out of the srt-4 plant.

When I was stationed in Germany a few years ago, I ordered a Ford from a German dealer in the village we lived in....sure enough, the underside had rust on it thanks to the salt they put on the roads (this was ordered in January). For the next three years I drove the hell out of that car and it never went into the shop for repairs.

The SRT-4 I recently bought has no rust on it, but I'm sure if I lived in the "snow zone" it would look like my German Ford did. Why worry? Take the extended warrantyif you're losing sleep. Besides, with a neat car like the SRT, you should be washing it every couple of days!!

Heck, I wash my R/T 2-4 times a week. If I had an SRT-4 I would probably be washing it daily.

draco,

I'm a little perplexed why you accept surface rust on brake rotors, but not on other underbody components... Brake rotors do not HAVE to rust, but Japs, Germans, Americans decide to save money and go cheap on the material. Why don't you demand that rotors are rust free?? Or since therotors rust on Jap cars, it must be "normal"?

Just out of curiosity, what type of retail sales do you work in? Do you go out of your way to give customers free stuff if it doesn't affect how the thing works? My guess is no.. it's the American way.. as you state, the SRT-4 gives you the most "bang for your buck" and that comes from making choices. You may not like the choice, but that's how they got to a monster car for $20 grand...

Wow, I thought this topic was dead, thanks for bringing it back 14psi.

I accept rust on the brake rotors because I have never seen a car that doesn't have rotor rust (show cars excluded). So, I guess you can say I accept it because of socialization. YOu accept what you have always lived with. I also know rotors are going to wear out and be replaced much the same way exaust systems will be as well. These two items on a car are exposed to extreme heat and are expected to rust given the purpose they serve. I realize that these items can perhaps be made out of a much higher grade substance, but as you pointed out would increase the price of the car drasticly. I however don't feel a sway bar should be thought of as a wear replaceable item. I also don't feel the added expense of simply spraying the bar with some under coating would cause that huge of a added expense to the vehicle. I'm not expecting the sway bar to be made of titanium I would just like it sprayed with some coating at the factory. The Japs and the Germans do it why can't dodge?
Once again I guess we are talking about socialization. I'm not use to seeing rust on main vehicle components on a new car. You obviously are. You accept rust on your vehicle and defend it. I don't understand why? Perhaps somewhere else someone doesn't understand why I accept rotor and exaust rust on a new car. So, I guess the question is do you accept the short comings of the car and buy it anyway, or buy something else. I haven't decided yet.

As for my occupation I manage a graphic design shop. My business is extremly detail oriented. And every product is custom made according to a customers specs. I get to hear people say "can you make it a bit greener?" Or how about "I must have perfect registration" can you tweek it some more? Since I have alot of demands put on me I tend to be a bit demanding of others and there products.

As far as me giving free stuff away? My time is mostly what I give away for free in hopes of making or keeping a LONG TERM customer.

One test drive in a SRT-4 you'll forget about the rust!

I'd no plan on buying a Dodge but that little turbo was just too addictive. I'd got her home 4 days after my test drive. And if that's not enough, there are different stage upgrades from Mopar Performancethat'll add more ponies under the hood. My stock 04'dynoed at 224 whp/239 torque with 1k miles on the odometer and there are many who hadeven better numbers. Underrated from the factory??
