SRT-4 or Celica GT-S?
I've been over to the Celica forum, and they were talkin a bunch of smack about the SRT-4. I saw the pictures of what happened to the Neon after the crash, and boy I'm startin to change my mind about the SRT-4. What are your guy's thoughts about the differences between the SRT-4 and the GT-S?
i also looked at GT-S for about 6 seconds. i dont know much about crash ratings, but preformance wise there isnt a contest and if i had a GT-S and payed that much for them id be looking for anything to knock for SRT's cause GT-S's are weak.
here's a thought - DON'T CRASH... problem solved... I do not know of the pics you saw of a crashed Neon... (post them if you can) but I had a roommates girlfriend get rear ended by an older S-10 Blazer at ~50-60 mph from the rear... she was on an off ramp, the Blazer smacked her from the back at that speed. Her Neon was totaled, and she walked away fine. A little bruised, but nothing serious...
I think you are just reading "jealousy flames" from the other forums (and no, I haven't been to the other forum, and yes I do own an SRT-4). If it helps, I considered buying a late model Mustang Cobra (which will stomp Celica's and even our SRT's in factory trim)... but I didn't... For me the Neon had more things I liked about it and was a new car for a used Cobra's price!
Check out governmental websites for crash ratings... then decide... good luck! but I wouldn't buy something if you plan on wrecking it... it's called "slow your @$$ down"

Really, did you expect them to be saying good things about the SRT-4?!?! As for the photos, my PD has hundreds of crash photos of all kinds of cars and trucks and most of them look pretty bad. I wear my seatbelt all the time, watch out for the other guy, don't drink and drive and keep my car in first class condition. Other than that, it's a roll of the dice....
Thanks SRT_Ya, I'll keep that in mind of not crashing. I'm not too big of a fan about mustangs, I hate most fords, except the ranger cuz my friend's older brother has one, and that thing hauls ***. Pretty much, the Cobra is the only mustang I'd drive, but I still hate mustangs. True, stock they are pretty fast, but mustangs are just WAY too common around where I live. It's impossible to go a day without seeing one. And most people that own a mustang think they are the ****, but I see a bunch of them getting smoked all the time.
Do you think anything will do good crashing at 60, 80, 100mph? I was in a crash in my 98 neon highline sedan. I came out fine I impacted at a solid 45mph. A guy cut out in front of me and I t-boned him.I'll post pics. Your gonna crash if you drive like an idiot. Celica's are nice if you're a girl and they cost way too damn much and are slow. They were cool when they came out but that died off quick. I hate to hate but when I see them on the street I know for sure

After owning both - there is no comparison.
I owned a 2000 gts - one of the first in the states. And while I loved the celica, Its power doesn't even come close to the dodges. The srt-4's 2.4 turbo has twice the torque of the 1.8vvtli engine and you really know it. Especially at the bottom end. The handling is just as good as the celica and may tend less towards body roll surprisingly. The celica is a little softer. Acceleration - no contest. With a supercharger and some modifications the celica is still trying(and not succeeding) to break 6 sec.s to 60 and 15 in the quarter. We're talking 33,000.00 worth of celica and it can't catch a $20,000.00 dodge.
Also I recently drove a new gts and it was less exciting than the 2000. it seems that the vvtli engagement has been dumbed down from the original settings. Where there was a serious and instant punch(a lot of fun) at 5500 rpm there is now a gradual and gentle changeover. This was done to compensate for the number of blown motors. So,
If I were you I would change my comparison vehicles. The nissan sentra spec v has good torque and much better acceleration than the celica(still not close to the srt-4) and its lsd provides some great turning experience.
If you want a coupe that looks good and goes okay the celica is great on the eyes. I would suggest waiting for the next generation celica if you need to have that marque. Its rumored to be a much more potent package.
My input - I just turned in my worked civic (after saying many times never a domestic)(Especially not a dodge) and bought the srt-4. i THINK IT MAY HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS I HAVE MADE. i LOVE THE SRT-4!!!!!
