Default question about type of intake

i know that on honda's if you get a true CAI then you have to buy the bypass valve to keep from getting water blow by in the motor. is that the same for the srt....trying to get my list of things to order and want to make sure that i get the best, cheapest and easiest to install.... anyone have any suggestions?!?!?!

i had the true CAI on up till lastmonth with no watersoaking issues, but i didnt try fording any creeks either. I have the K&N typhoon, so its now a shortram for the winter.

Modern Performance has several CAI's for SRT-4s with splash shields including the one model mentioned above that you can switch from a regular CAI to a shortram when needed......

I have the Mopar 3inch cai. I love the way it sounds. The turbo spools loud and it seemed to help my mopar bov. The cai came with a splash guard and I also have an AEM 3in water Bypass breather (not installed yet). I would suggest getting an intake, because it is a very noticable difference from factory. Performance wise, not much difference, maybe some.

but it does sound better, plus it frees up a little room in the engine bay, and the battery tray is the perfect place to mount your OCC

Most performance gains are around 7-10 HP according to MP's charts. Different dyno's and weather conditions will give different readings though.

DO NOT put the bypass valve on. It even says in the instructions not to use it on a turbocharged car and that it can/will reduce performance. A friend of mine bought the AEM bypass valve for his Injen CAI on his Tiburon GT V6 and now it just sits in the box it came in since it mentions all that.

You do not need a bypass valve unless you drive wrecklessly through standing water that is fairly deep. You would almost have to have water coming in the car through the bottom of the doors to suck water into the CAI. The only other way is driving fast through several inches of water and getting the air filter completely covered at one time. The K & N Typhoon can be used either as a true CAI or as a short ram if your worried about it just like dusty said.

a buddy of mine had a 00' civic si and he had the AEM CAI and had to deal with blow-by and ultimately had to build a new motor. this is something that im not prepared to deal with at this time not any other. but i will put my faith in you guys and trust that i wont need one. but just to be safe, what would the difference be in the true cold air and a short ram? im sure that HP cant be a huge difference, but i know on those little VTEC's, the pitch is a huge difference. hold true for turbo's??
