Default srt4 shifter ****

Anybody changed out the ugly shifter **** in the srt4? I suspect some have. Is it an easy change out and what do you recommend?

ugly?

I don't think many people will agree with that. It goes great with the car and the shape feels good.

I, as a lot of people have, did replace it due to the popping off in 2nd gear and the plastic factor,

But most of us have gotten a great 50$ shifter from modernperformance.com that looks exactly like the old one. It is just a real quality polished aluminum piece that will not rip off in any circumstances...It does - however look like the old one.

I meant ugly due to the plastic factor. I like the silver ball look..... and it does feel good in my hand. I just don't like the cast line around the equator of the thing. I'll check out the website, thanks!

ahhh...

that plastic line does suck.

you'll love the moderperf. piece. It has a great adapter for the shifter that bolts on with 9 set screws and the **** becomes a real nice, heavy screw on. plus the weight makes it shift better.

they have a lot of other stuff there, too and they are quality people.

I have never had a problem with my shift **** coming off and I've put in the Mopar STS and taken it out for a few good runs without even a hint of it being slightly loose.

took mine off about a month after i got the car. i replaced it with a light weight black chome ball from razo. i didn't love the silver look on it for some reason.

my stock **** ripped off about 3 times in the month that i had it on. that first to second shift rips it right off. it happens to just about all the cars i know of that still have the stock **** on. throw a gear hard, and the dam thing pops off.

If your're talking about the MPx model, it's a steal at less than $40. I have one myself and it's well made, and adjustable. Makes a difference in the handling, for sure!!!

It seems to mainly be a problem for those that have installed a STS, since the **** just pulls straight up and off and snaps back on, the retaining clip can get worn or bent causing it to not fit as tight as it should. As I have said, I put in the Mopar STS and reused my original **** and have never had it come off once even during hard fast shifts. It all comes down to each individual one I guess.[sm=smiley24.gif]
