I believe it is a Federal (DOT) requirement for the amber side lights. This was first required back in the 60's if I remember right and everybody raised hell about it saying there was no way they could make cool looking vehicles with the required side lights.....

There's also a Federal DOT requirement for a certain amount of the rear taillights being visible from the side, as well.

Even motorcycles have to have the sidelights, but most use reflectors.

Personally, I've never written a citation for "lights" other than red or blue neon visible from the front.....

 

The taillights also are required to have a certain minimum amount of it's surface to be reflective.

And APC stands for American Products Company.

 

I want some! How about the rear center brake light anyone know how hard that is?

 

cake- open the trunk, remove two screws, switch the bulb, two screws on, new lens is in. btw, this one does have to be red.

 

My bulb is almost I hate to say this...but a pinkish color. It is a really light red. I need to get an LED red bulb to replace it, so its bright red.[&:]

 

yeah, mine came the same way- stealth bulbs makes a replacement that's clear unlit and red lit.
