the reason i ask how fast your goin is that if your goin to slow for that gear you could boost to high which isnt good for the car.

the way i do it is if im driving under 45 ill drop to second, if over then ill put it in 3rd till about 80 or 90 then go to 4th. if im high way driving in fifth at 75 or 80 then ill just drop to 4th. im sure what your doin is driving normal then punching it in the wrong gear.
The use of you turbo is dependent on your throtle position or how much gas you giving your car. thats y when you let off the gas you loose all boost. so if your in 5th gear at 45mph and you put your foot on the floor your car is goin to put full boost out, and your engine is goin to be working its *** off because you in the wrong gear. just think about climbing a hill in a mountain bike in a high gear, your legs are pumping all over the place but your not going anywhere, your car is doing the same thing but your now putting unneeded wear and wasting gas. so learn what gear you suppost to be in when "racing" then when you want to get on it put it in the rite one, it will make you faster and easer for your car.

RPM and weather can have a huge effect on your boost.

Don't forget to check all hose clamps related to boost. Loose clamps will do the same thing as what you described.
