Another exhaust question!
Hi, I have a question, my car is as good as stock exept my Tein S springs. I wan't to hear more growling and popping sound from my exhaust. It's not cheap to import an exhaust system to Iceland where I live so I was thinking about this thing. I wan't to take the straight long pipe from the downpipe to the bend and exchange it to 3", that will ofcourse including removing the Resonators. Will this help me having more sound to my car, perhaps some hp gain or is this a lost cause?

Thank,
Kristjan

Here is an exaple for what I have to pay for modification in my car: I bought myself some CLK style taillights the other day on ebay. Costs about $68. So, shipped inside of USA, it maybe goes upto about $80. So, I get them shipped over here to Iceland. That's about 70-80 dollars more. And then the cosumes. That's alot more. I calculated how much the cost is, shipped here, all the way to my house with all expence, $230!!! That's not cheap! I'm paying 3 times as much for one taillight set then it's worth in the USA. Not good. So you calculate how much an exhaust would cost to ship in here!!! [:@]
If you removed the resonators and replaced them with just a straight pipe it would definately be louder, for the resonators are really the only things dampening the sound on the stock exhaust. As for hp gains, I'm hestitant to say whether it would make a difference or not. Are there not any shops where you are at that could just fab up a custom exhaust for you, at least from the cat back?
Any of the Mopar Stage's will increase the popping and growling, mostly the popping. Eliminating the resonators and or the catalytic converter will increase flow and sound.
just swaping the resinator section isn't going to help much because you're still very restricted with the rest of the system. you should look into a cunstom exhaust if you have the opportunity. you can also check with the guys over on srtforums in the overseas section to see where they're ordering parts from and what's the cheapest. i know there's a bunch of guys in germany that get parts sent to them, they would be a good place to start to find cheap shipping....
I was thinking about just trading out this part of the exhaust first and see, maybe later all the way to the back, perhaps I should buy a new high flow downpipe or something
I believe it's the O2 pipe that has the bottleneck, so if your going for performance it should be the first thing to replace.

Removing the resonators will not help hp but will be louder. Should not hurt hp either. Removing the cat will definitely be louder, and will help hp, but you will need a stage computer so you dont get codes. Stock computer wont like it. Fabbing a cat back 3 inch (76mm) exhaust will help sound a lot and maybe hp a little but not much on a stock computer car.
I think for your budget now, removing the resonators and putting in the straight pipe will at least get you the sound you want and will not hurt performance. Do it in a way so you do not destroy the resonators so you can put them back in if you need too.
