Hi all I thought it polite to introduce myself. My name is Simon I am English and I live in Egypt (North Africa). I first visited the USA in 1991 for a week in NY.

I returned a couple of years later and went to Florida for the Datona 500, thats when I saw the Ram. I thought it looked great! you cannot get the Ram in England and even if you could fuel at over $7 a gallon would make it expensive to run.

When I came to live in Egypt last December I was driving a rental and I spotted a Ram, I followed the truck tor 30 mins untill it stopped and I asked the driver where he bought it. He was very helpfull and told me only 4 cars had come to Egypt and that 2 were still awaiting customs clearence. I made a phonecall and placed the order. To do this I had to send $51,000 to Cairo, its expensive I know but everyone here drives cars from Korea.

The Licenceing here is a nightmare they don't use computers and it takes weeks.

The truck is Fantastic but I cannot drive it because I cannot show the Police where the engine number is. I didn't know that I had to show where the number was and I had waited 4 days in a room full of flys just for the guy to see the truck. I have now emailed Dodge in the USA and they say they will reply within one week.

There is a lot of Desert here and to drive between citys I have to have a police escort, this is because tourism is a vital part of the countrys income and when anyting goes wrong the tourists don't come.

The area I live is a city called Hurgharda, and it is on the Red Sea.

The internet is going to be my only contact with the outside world but it takes 3 months for the company to connect the phone line so for now I'm restricted to cafes.

The weather here is great 360 days a year sunshine and never gets too hot because of the sea.

Hope to be posting some good pictures soon (phone line connected in march) but the speed is slow so so I may have problems.

Anyhow look fordward to reading more on the trucks.

Thanks folks for the welcome I cant wait to get the truck into the desert and she how she performs off road, most of the roads here are just dirt tracks allthough there are a lot of new highways. The max speed is 60 k which is a little over 40 mph people dont keep to the limits though and if your not carefull you can in heaps of trouble because the road can have a massive hole in it, and when I say massive I mean it 3 feet deep. I asked why there was no signs or markers around the holes and the reply was " cos everyone knows its there" this is made worse that more than half the cars drive without lights at night, the reason is they can see ok. You just cant see them.

Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome Simon! Egypt sounds like a cool place, my neighbor lived in Alexandria for a while. The Ram is an awesome truck, do you know what kind of Ram it is? Does anybody stare at you when you drive that big truck around over there with all of those little Hondas?
