Hey there C_Elliot83...

I'm a father with one little one, and another on the way. I had a quad cab 1500 and we found the back seat troublesome often to get our daughter in/out of. I'm not a big person, I'm 160lbs so it's not like I have extra girth to factor in. We replaced the 1500 with a 3500 MegaCab CTD (Sig pic). We've named our truck the "Fort Mac Mini-Van" and "The Beast" depending on the context of the conversation. It allows for a lot of space in the back seat for the kid(s). If you are looking new, the Crew Cab is a good medium ground for space IMHO, but I've also never owned one. Anyways, ya, the MC has been a great family vehicle. Its very comfortable, the rear seats are not a 'fighting point' among passengers. I too have leather as it's a Laramie. The new Ram's leather is much nicer, but the 3rd Gens are nice too.. it just looks a little too vinylish imho. It does repel the spills will though which is what you were going for anyhow.

Welcome to the forum, and when you find one, make sure you post some pics... it'd better have a rams head on it

Truck 2 - I'm not sure about the 4.7s... I've never owned one, people say they get the same/worse mileage than the hemis, and they have less hp/torque... Miles are high on it too. Othewise its a nice looking truck

Truck 3 - Big tires, lift kit... growing family... ummmm if you can get this one past your wife/gf/etc, it's still not worth it. It'll drink you out of house and home being a gasser with those mods.

Truck 4 - I don't mind the avalanches, but I'm not sure if I'd call it a truck. Miles look a big high on it, but it doesn't have all the crap #3 did which is a good thing. There's lots of Av's around my town and people seem pretty happy with them. They are a comfortable truck. Biggest issue, its not a ram... :/

Hope that helps.

Hi Chris...I'm a newb here also. We're not a minivan family either. I bought a loaded 98 Durango SLT from a farmer in '03 it has the 360 (gets maybe 13mpg). It was my wife's kid hauler mostly, she liked it because it wasn't too big and had 3 rows of seats, 4WD, and cold AC. It has 160K and still runs great, but has some rust on the bumper and running boards, and fenders...as you see it on the older Durangos. I had a f150 with the straight 6 & extended cab with bench seats in the front. It was a good truck and roomy enough until my kids became teens. I sold it with 180K, and bought my Ram (reg cab). Kids now have their own cars. The Durango is now my son's, he put some small mudders on it and a big sub-woofer in the back. Not a soccer mom vehic any longer.

I like the durangos but i think we have decided to get a crew cab truck. The red one in the above link is my top choice since i know the guy personally and i know for a fact he has every reciept for anything ever done. Im just waitin on the bank to give me the yes or no on the loan.

If you get a Durango and do weekend work your gonna be tempted to pull the car seats for more room. A dual duty truck is was the ticket when I had a business. If your working plans are local a trailer is the perfect ticket. A lot of guys willl tell you trailer is a pain but considering the costs of a trailer over a good set of tool boxes the trailer wins. You can put more in the trailer, shelve it and disconnect it when not in use. You can also put signs on the trailer but you gotta be careful because of the local business licenses etc in Va, (lived there 40 years and glad to be gone). I also have had Ford Diesels and its a good idea to stay away from them and Ford. I had Dodge, Ford, and G.M. products and ranked service, #1. Dodge, #2 G.M. Products and Ford -----99. All they want is to charge you a bundle and have you wait for your truck!

Mrs.N was a city gal and learnded farm and country from me. We have 2 Dakotas, mine in waiting for good weather in the back yard for brake cables. We drive her 89 and at least every week she exclaims, I love my truck. Three nights ago when the road was bad and people were sliding around we backed uphill on the slick and parked. ROFL she asked how the )*&& did this truck do this, then it was, " Nevermind the truck loves me!" (4 wheel drive and traction lock rear sure help).
