Default Power Steering

New member and very much enjoy this forum. I started this guy up because I was just charged $415 off a power steering sensor, and flush, diagnostics, and oil change.
The diagnostics determined why my check engine light was on which was the power steering sensor.
The part was $96.70 which from what I have read up on via the internet and talking to other auto shops, that's a $20 to $40 part. Mind you this was not a dealership.
In my search I also found it takes may be 20 minutes to replace.
Now is a complete power steering flush necessary? The FSM does not mention it and the manufacturer does not recommend it. Either way this takes 45 minutes if done properly.
Am I nuts or is something wrong here?
I also asked them to look at my breaks due to inspection time coming up. I got a grand total back of $850 worth of work on the breaks and above mentioned work. I did not imagian the above mentioned work was half of that price. I just had my breaks done (all four) under $300 not to mention my new break line less then two years ago.

Correct me if i am wrong please. Other wise I am on may way out the door to rip someone a new one.

It sounds like you are been taken advantage. Here in California, We have BAR that goes after shops that take advantage of consumers. I don't know if you have anyone in your area that looks out for the consumer there.
