Default will not run

A freind of mine has a 97 dodge 5.9L that was not running right. It was idling rough and the the tac was jumping around and popping in the cab. He was told it was the IAC or the TPS. we replaced both of them. When the IAC was replaced it ran for a short time and then died right out. Now it wont start and when it does it dies as soon as you let off gas peddle. Looking for some advice please help.....

Welcome to DF
Did the check engine light come on? Sometimes when the TPS and the IAC have been replaced, you need to reset the memory in the PCM. But if you have a check engine light on, you need to scan and post the codes.

To reset the memory you would need a scanner. To clear a check engine code, all you need to do is disconnect the battery. I going to guess you like the 49ers? Because i do too. I have season tickets for the 49ers and had them for 41 years.

Ok thank you..I do have another question we do get it to start and it will run for 5 minutes to 30 minutes then it just dies. If it sets 4 or more hours it will restart and run for a bit again and then dies. What could be the reason for this.. and how do you fix it...

It could almost anything, Bad crank sensor, connection to the PCM, fuel pressure or the PCM. But not being able to test it, that makes hard to say. How was the engine running before you replaced the sensors? And did you buy the sensors from autozone? If you did buy the sensors from an aftermarket store, put the old ones back on and see if the engine will stay running.

I would recommened to have a shop look at the problem. They may have the scanner to find out why the engine is running poorly and quit after a few mins. Have you posted in the 2nd Gen Ram section.
