HI I have a 2004 dodge 1500 slt with a 5.7 Hemi with 312,000 kms this engine will knock real loud then it will change to about half as loud and then it will quit knocking and then it just keeps doing this. Over and over again. The engine has been one owner does not go through oil. It does not seam to have lost much of its power the engine has been very reliable and still is. This knocking noise has got me wondering what to do with so many kms is it worth putting any money into it or change engines.

 

Have you checked for exhaust leaks? That may be all it is....
