Default 1979 dodge trans-van owner

Long time reader of this site and finally registered and maybe I can be of some help here
im a 20 year Chrysler tech now retired, actually I got out of working on cars in 2008 but I was a tech from 1987 and yes, as my name implies I was a viper tech and worked on the other exotics such as stealths, talons, crossfires, prowlers, and yes, I’m going to admit it ..........TCs by masarati !

my current project came about because my wife and I were traveling back east to visit family every year and my 2001 Cherokee was rather small and we had to get a hotel room every night so she told me she wanted a motorhome, well I wanted a hot rod to customize so I compromised and built a “hot rod motorhome “, she said it needed a kitchen, bathroom, and shower. So what I found was a 1979 dodge trans-van ( remember those?) and proceded to gut everything and rebuild it and customize it I won’t get into specific details here it would take too long but you folks can check out its Facebook page called “ TERMINAL DEFIANCE “ lots of pics and modifications

the current mods are going from carburetor to factory fuel injection yea, pain in the butt! But seems to work good with a few problems I will outline in a different thred

thanks for for reading my intro

Probably the Van section..... or even the first gen Ram section, drivetrains are very similar.

Thanks, I have a problem with the pcm, my drivetrain is entirely swapped with a 1995 360 magnum so I guess it would be second gen engines

PCM has heavy duty emissions, 3/4 ton trucks and vans for 1995 had single exhaust and one 02 sensor, heavy duty emissions for 1995 have dual exhaust and left and right bank 02 sensors dual cats with an air pump
I am currently running a single 02 sensor PCM but it’s only reading one bank of the exhaust

my PCM has a bad ignition driver and it cuts out after getting hot so I needed a repair, or replacement
my wife came to the rescue by finding two on eBay with the same part number one for 40bucks, and another for 175$ so I got them both let’s see if they will actually work

the one thing you have to remember this is NOT a dodge van chassis, the cab is the same as a van but the chassis is an MB400, rated up to 14,500 lbsmax weight. I tell people that this is not an overbuilt dodge van, it’s an under built dodge motorhome.

Thanks hey you, I have skimmed the forums here and there is some great info and some great helpful people I should have joined this website 5 years ago!

PCM or Coil failing? Could be either.

Coil is an msd wiring is all good, I have access to a DRB and I was losing crank signal, after replacing sensor 4 times with the junk from parts store I got a OEM sensor, all plastic, from my salvage yard and still had problems till my friend who owns a shop gave me a brand new PCM he had lying around, it was for a 1995 BR truck with 360 but with regular emissions so I tried it and it does work but only reads one 02 sensor. It has never cut out, works great but only off of one 02 sensor and idle sucks, oh ,and crank sensor is over 20 years old and works great

my goal is to get this registered back into California, go through the smog inspection and have it registered with the power train as a 1995 dodge truck Check out the Facebook page I have for it, terminal defiance. You can see engine pics of the carb I had on it and all the modifications I have done over the last 5 years. You will see the custom shifter I installed with the micro switches I used to shift overdrive and lock up manually. Two cross country trips and I actually got 12-13 mpg with the 49 gallon fuel tank, I have a range of over 500 miles

cant wait to see what I’ll get with fuel injection!
