Welp, doing the new user post. I've got an 88 D100 3.9l, and will probably be inheriting my fathers 03 2500 and his 05 Dakota, so figured I'd get an account made for the inevitable problems I'm facing with them.

The 88 is a street rod project. Plan on it getting either a 5.9 Magnum, or finding a 440 Hemi or a ZBI/II into it.

Welcome to DF!

The Hemi was 426 cubic inches, and they are incredibly hard to find. And quite expensive when you do.

Good lookin' truck though.

I was looking at crates, and just goes to show my lack of MOPAR knowledge. Despite my Dad being a Mopar guy and us always having Dodge trucks, my first vehicle was a 91 Chevy with the 5.7l and almost all of my friends are Ford guys.

I was considering a Cummins swap into it, but read on another forum that the frame might not be able to handle the weight, which is why I was looking at the V8 options. The SRT 10 was one of my dream trucks in High School, so that's why I was thinking of trying to find a V10 to toss in it.

I think the viper V-10 (or the truck SRT 10) motors were aluminum, the regular truck V-10's were cast iron, thus, REALLY heavy. Could always look at the Mopar crate motors as well..... 5.7 Hemi would be a nice upgrade in that truck.

If money isn't too much of a problem, I'd go with a big block. This is the same basic body as the 1973-78 trucks and up to a 440 was available. You might have to fab motor mounts and it won't bolt up to your transmission.

Something I would do if I had the money is get a pair of long ram manifolds like the Letter cars had. Add two small TBI fuel injector units and have wall to wall engine.

It's a complex set up, but so is the short ram a lot of racers use. Imagine going to a car show and popping your hood with THAT in there. You'll get the same result as my '54 Dodge Coronet with the 241 Hemi. I had people wandering over from a new Corvette to look at it.
