Default Hello

Hello, been a member for a little while but never got around to posting. Purchased my grandfathers 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Laramie a few years ago. It's been in the family since New and has about 60,000 miles on it. Although the miles are low it sat a lot the last 5-10 years and have been slowly bringing it back to life. Runs great now and a rebuild the front end. Big things to tackle is new doors and start a soft restoration. Interior is in fantastic shape besides the dreaded dash and the blown speaker. Currently deployed to the middle east right now and doing my homework so I can jump in with both feet when I return and take a long extended leave. Look forward to sharing the progress.

Well this side isn't to bad but drivers side is not good. The rust is up under the door, likely from where it sat next to the barn and and snow plowed up against it. So I will be on the lookout for a drivers do to start with. Overall the truck is nice and worth putting the work into.

Car-part.com is gonna be your friend. Find some nice southern doors, and have 'em shipped to ya. Won't be exactly inexpensive..... but, you should be able to find pretty much perfect doors, and if you are real lucky, even in the right color.

Thanks! I'll check it out. Nice to know there is a reputable company. I hit up FB and got hit with a million scammers.

Truck looks great ... well worth saving and fixing up .... better then the new crap they produce today IMHO.

carpart.com is a listing of parts .... A place any wrecking yard can go to and advertise what they have for sale and they will ship to you.
I use them all the time when I need something because I live in the boonies, sometimes is cheaper to have things shipped then to pay the fuel and my time to go chase down the part and remove it myself ... it is a convenient way to go for me .... Just remember you are dealing with individual wrecking yards and not carpart.com.

Recently I bought a distributor for a 1979 Dodge slant 6. Not only did they send me the wrong one, the body was broke and was no way to hold a distributor cap on it.
They agreed to refund the $35 I paid for it ... I had to eat the $15 shipping I paid to get it, pay another $15 to return it ... they would reimburse my $35 ... not worth it.
Just be aware ... Now I always call and talk to them first, before purchasing.

I thank you Sir for your service .... you have my respect.

They make reproduction sheet metal for the doors also if it's just the bottom. Common rust spot. If you do get used doors use some rust converter inside between the outer door skin and the inner. After that seal it so water can't get in there.

I agree totally with just repairing the doors.
Lets pretend that a yard wanted $250 for each door and then shipping cost on top of it.

There may be patch panels available to easily fix this issue.
If it is on the bottom of the doors, the metal can be replaced without affecting any of the visible paint.

For my old Dodge, I paid $2 at a yard sale for some old metal shelves from a school at 18 gauge .... I cut and bent that metal to make my own patches.

Possible to just purchase pre made patches to weld in .... cheaper then what shipping would be.
I do not want to be a Debbie downer ..... removing doors and adjusting hinges is not a easy job.
I would rather weld in patches then remove doors .... unless the door hinge bushings need replaced also .... then you pulling the doors anyways ... I still would fix original if I had a choice.

Not a bad option for my passenger, however the driver side is gone. The whole bottom half is so bad the door has started to separate in to two pieces. Thanks for the advice.
