Supercharger vs. Twin Turbo
And I have the most amazing NHRA drag strip to sell real cheap in Antarctica too.
Actually, there are two Turbo T/A's, the first is the '80-'81 with the previously mentioned 301 V8 and then there's the '89 Turbo V6. There was a '79 T/A 10th Anniversary Edition, but it was before they had the turbo version in 1980. He must be refering to the '89 Turbo T/A 20th Anniversary Edition Pace Car with the turbocharged V6, it is far better than the early 80's Turbo T/A, but it is no where near being a 12 second car from the factory. They can fairly easily be made into a 12 second car with some work done to it. It is good for 0-60 MPH in 5.1 sec. and the 1/4 mile in 14.2 sec. with some showing them better in the high 4's 0-60 MPH and high 13's in the 1/4 mile and others showing slower. It will be a valuable car and currently holds better value than the other T/A's of the same body style. He won't race it because it would prove that he's completely full of sh*t.[sm=bs.gif][sm=bustedsign.gif][sm=loser.gif] I hope you see him again so that you can throw it back in his face.

well, if nothing else, it was a Very nice looking car...but i was questioning his claims...i coudlnt talk any trash because i was running the stratus that night, not the mirada
Yeah, I always liked the T/A's, they always look better than the Camaro's. My favorite years for them are the '74 T/A Super Duty 455, '79-'81 T/A (looks only), '83 T/A (I want one to make into a K.I.T.T. clone), '89 T/A GTA (I was looking at one of these for my first car) and '00-'02 T/A WS6. I don't necessarily want any of them, but I do like them and if I were to get one it would probably be an '83 to make into K.I.T.T.
each accentuates the motor its put on. n/a V8 has good torque, since a supercharger makes max boost quick the torque curve will rocket up and stay there to almost redline, hp will also jump and continue to climb to redline.. a revvy V6 or I4 which make lower torque and hp higher and later in the rev band will benefit from a turbo, torque coming on a bit later but flattening out and hp rising all the way to redline when the turbo does spool. if you already have a v8 that has been built alittle and has gobs or torque to about 3500revs then a turbo would work very well, because you have the torque of the motor to take the place of spool up time. once it does spool hold on to your ***!! supercharged smaller engines will make gobs more torque lower in the rev range and will not reach higher hp numbers than a turbo in part to pulley size( which can be swapped) but then you run into the problem of breaking things.. remember hp doesnt break things TORQUE does!! most automatic vehicles will benefit mostly from a supercharger than a turbo cause we need that torque to get us going, unlike a manual which can rev and spool to launch. i think you can get where im going with this.. either way its preference and application type. there are two dakotas that i know of with same motor just one is a reg cab and the other is club cab. the reg cab has a kenne bell and ran a 13.7@ 108 the club cab ran a 12.5@145 with a single turbo setup. both manuals, the turbo really kicked the pants off on the top side.
it looks like he launches nice and hard so i dont think you can blame traction...and he didnt appear to be walking away from the other truck top end, who ran a 12.60@110...i really cant imagine why it has such an amazingly high mph...i ran 12.60s @ 104.5-106
Ok I heard someone earlier saying that superchargers have more potential.... That is completely false superchargers get power and get it quick but..... most supercharger max out at what 7-12 psi? So think about it when you start talking forced induction you can basically calculate appx 10hp gain to every 1psi of boost so putting the AVERAGE Stage 2 or 3 supercharger at about 120hp gain.
Now Turbo chargers can depending on the size of the turbo boost upwards of 40 psi on a built engine. The trade off is going to be turbo lag which can be compensated for in several different ways which I really dont care to explain the only reason for this post is to prove that for the dollar turbo is the best mod out there. You can build a complete custom turbo for well under 4K and that is on the high end. Thanks Paul
