RE: Ford to quit making minivans
My only concern is that Chrysler has continued to lose sales to these Japanese and Korean manufactures in this market as well. Back in '99 Chrysler had 45% of the market, now they have something like 35-37% I read somewhere. I think the update that they will be offering in '08 will take back many customers and make Japanese and Korean manufactures crap their pants with how competitive it will be. They will no longer have the advantage in acceleration and although a minivan is not purchased because of the acceleration and performance, it sure doesn't chase them away either. I'm glad Ford is dropping out. The transmissions they used sucks. I'm yet to meet someone who has been able to put over 100,000 miles let alone 200,000 miles on that crappy Ford tranny, and those engines sucked down a lot of fuel without much power to show for it. Dodge will probably get the bulk of the Freestar customers since most of them had to be Ford fans anyways that would rather own a domestic over a Japanese van.
Valid point, srtommy and LOL, whoosh, on how Ford should die.
