misinformation...tsk tsk tsk..

the CVT is not a nissan trans..the nissan murano uses a CVT, and the caliber uses the CVT2, which are both designed by JATCO, which is actually part owned by Mitsu Motors..the CVT2 differs from the CVT in the Murano.

Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance designed the engine line up for use by Hyundai, Mitsu, and dodge, which are the three players in GEMA. however, all three will not have the same features and performance measures...basically, GEMA designed the bottom end of the engine, and all of the caliber NA gasoline engines use the same block...I believe, however, that the different companies will use different top ends...but this is nothing new...the 2.7L V6 found in th tiburon GT is a variation of the 6g72, which is found in stealths/3000gt/stratus/sebring/eclipse 2000+...and if you tear all of the crappy plastic cladding away from the motor in the tibby, the motor is visually similar. it is just that, in the past, they have whored out engines without any official title, other than the DSM nme, which is now gone, but basically, this is a similar deal to DSM, just with an extra member...

read this article. that company belongs to Nissan, they use the same transmission in other vehicles. I'm right.

The first of the "world engines" in the United States with key advanced technologies - variable valve timing and a flow-control valve intake manifold - are sold by Chrysler. The engines were designed jointly by Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai, and will be made and used by all three - in rather different configurations (Mitsubishi even has a three-cylinder variant!). Chrysler is using dual-variable-valve technology to control both intake and exhaust valves; Hyundai is using a different variable-valve package. The result of this, as well as different intakes and other packaging details, will probably result in different power outputs for each of the three companies using the same basic engines.

Reportedly, the basic block was designed by Hyundai, and Chrysler and Mitsubishi then made a large number of modifications to make it more efficient and adapt it to their uses and technologies. Most of the packaging/dressing components, such as intake manifolds and valve timing equipment, appear to have been developed by each partner independently and will be used independently as well.

booya bitch jk

that company is joint owned..by nissan and mitsubishi

from allpar..:
The supplier of the transmission is JATCO, which is owned by Nissan and Mitsubishi;...
find me the source of your article nicko..not some guys name...

the CVT is similar to the murano..not the same. the murano uses a torque convertor and from that the motion crated by the TC creates centrifugal force to make the CVT "work"...the dodge CVT2 uses an electronic controller in conjunction with the TC, to control the spread of the pulley sets...this allows for "gear selection" and the ability to "shift" gears that dont exist, and it will even have an autostick feature...the murano, on the other hand, boasts of a completely smooth transmission with very minor, if any, "shift feel'...

and while youre at it, find better sources...from gemaengines.com

Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance is a joint venture comprised of DaimlerChrysler, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi Motors. This venture was formed to serve the needs of all three companies. Our goal is to manufacture a new family of cost-efficient, in-line, four-cylinder engines that will meet and beat the best engines in the world. Our partnership leverages the extensive resources of the three companies to create and use best-practice manufacturing processes, advanced automation, and leading-edge technology. The result is three equal partners, relying upon their collective strengths, who have joined forces in this historic effort that combines automotive innovation, a winning culture that encompasses and embraces diversity of thought and background, and an unprecedented level of cooperation between employees and management.
if youre gonna use google to argue with me, at least check more than one source...ive done extensive reading on this car, and done an article about it...so im not googling the info...

my point wasnt so much who owns it, but that the murano CVT is not the CVT that is in the caliber...

by nickos logic every car ever built with an automatic has had the "Same transmission" as well...

i know that somewhere i had what the percentages of ownership were for the GEMA, but i dont know where it was....if im not mistaken, DCX is the big money behind it...and it sure as hell couldnt have been mitsu...

what the hell was this thread even about? [sm=confused06.gif]

oh snap! 2003/01/30 Announcement of Merger Between JATCO and DIAMONDMATIC ..who knows what diamondmatic is? anyone? [8D]

ORIGINAL: ViperGTS

The Fusion is just a Ford 500 with a nice front end and some groaty looking wood panels thrown in...all at a cost over the 300.

I guess Matts been watching the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous alot lately!
Haha. I was going to ask what was so lmao about it

you cant tell me that you havent seen worst priced vehicles....
$300,000 for a $150,000 Ford GT. That was some great pricing/gauging...

-Matt-
WRONG!

The Fusion is a much smaller car than the 500.

The Fusion is actually a Mazda 6 with different sheet metal and your "groaty" looking wood panels. Even has the Mazda four banger in the base stock model. That said, the Mazda version is still much better.

The Honda and Toyota Hybrids use CVT transmissions too.

Similar to your snowmobiles. CVT's are used in snowmobiles
