Lost bad in a race.
I have a 2001 Stratus R/T coupe. I love the car! Glad I found this place.

While out looking for trouble and rice to fry, I came across a new Grand Prix. I have raced a few of GP's in the past, won some, lost some. I talked some trash to this guy at a light. The light turned green I took off HARD. His car made a LOUD screaming sound and was GONE! He pulled like 8 cars on me by the time I hit third gear. WTF? That car is hella big! Anyone else see one of these things run? I have the race on video, but it is a pretty large file.

Sounds like you raced a GTP that had at least an aftermarket intake

With a simplesupercharger pulley swap (~$70), intake, and exhaust, the GTP can hit 13's if tuned properly.

The most modded GTP's are running high 12's and a few in the high 11's in the 1/4. Not quite sure of the power on the Stratus R/T but the GTP comes stock w/240hp. Definitely worthy competition for most mid-size cars out there.

I had no idea a car that heavy would run off on me like that. I run high 14's in my Strat. I have beat prenty of grand prixs before but have never heard anything like that in my life. It sounded like a jet was taking off! This one looked different too. It did not have any badges on the side, just a "Grand Prix" on the trunk.

For the most part, my car is an Eclipse GT in Dodge skin. Stock power at 200 HP and about the same number for torque. I have done intake and exhaust on mine. I was so surprised by how fast he was off the line! That is usually where I leave them sitting.

Turns out it was one of our members over at Clubgp.com

It wasa brand new 2004 GTP CompG that you raced. They dont' have badges on the side at all, just the "GTP" on the back. They upgraded the HP on the '04's to 260 (crank). He has a few mods under his belt and is running very low 14's.

My mom has the Bonneville SSEi which is the same Supercharged package as the Grand Prix GTP, I must say that car is the biggest sleeper I've ever seen in my life. I get laughed at when I pull up next to ricers but it is always fun to see their embarrassed faces when we get to the next light and I have just smoked them.

The 2nd genMitsubishi Eclipse's are actually not the better ones to buy. The 2nd gen Eclipse's usually get crank walk after a while. The 1st gen eclipse's are the better ones, '91 especially. The 1st gen motors don't get crank walk, the car is lighter, has a bigger turbo, and is faster. I know this because I know a few DSM guys, one of them builds 400-500 hp DSM's.

I just really prefer the look of the '97/'98. They did indeed pick up a few pounds just like most cars, the first versions are usually the lightest and all future restyles add weight. The Neons are a prime example of this.
