Well there scg87, First thanks for a Friday evening of amusement at the shop on the first "mass produced" over 1hp per cube engine thing.

Right afterI posted my response, my better half called me a dumbass and said the first was the 1957 283hp 283 fi Corvette. my point was "mass production" but wait it gets better, first a little regroup here.

Yer saying "mass produced" A 130 years of combined car freakery in the shop is what sparked the debate and we came to the conclusion, that at over 10,000 cars producedthe 1964 327 fi 360hp is the one that fills the bill for that statement as around 4000 of those vettes were 327 fi,The 1957 283/283 they built around 6300 and 1958 283/290 around 9100, 57-58 283 fi vettes number only in the hundreds produced.

The 1955 300hp 331 2x4 was what put the 300 in the Chrysler C 300.

1956 was the last year of a 331 in a Chrysler car.

At 1725 built the1955 C300 was far from mass production although it was the first muscle car builtit's 331 2x4 at300hp it can't be counted.

1956 saw the only ever rated more hp than displacement MoPar ever built and it was the 355hp 354 2x4 engine with "special heads and solid camshaft" for the 1956 300B cars. So it would seem that ma MoPar did the1hp per cube thing first. Also not a bunch built at around 1100.

1957-58 300's packed a 390hp 392 2x4

Any way thanks again, two days later and the shop still smells of the Good-Year fog feast of Friday, and we all discoverd that again, MoPar is the first!
And remember MoPar or No car!

Right, so once again you missed you mean! 1957 was 283 283hp[8D] My old lady knew that! Back at ya ! But still in the context of "mass produced" the360hp 327 was the one most used by far, morethan the 283's.

Not picking on you dude but if yer gonna spew historical number **** at least get 'em right first!

Yup I6 or V8, though that I6 has a nasty habit of dropping cylinder sleeves, i wouldnt own either but if i had too, v8 and nothing else, lol. If i remember correctly the I6 was 270 hp and 275 lb/ft torque, for the 02.
