but ive seen an auto GTO at the track in PA, decent elevation, running 13.8s-9s...and i cant blame much of that to driver error.

Did the GTO know you were racing? Hard to believe your basically stock SRT-4 pulled an LS1 up top. Hell, I've got video of a stage II SRT-4 on BFG's not trapping higher than 81mph and turning 9.0's in the 1/8th. Hell, the guys a friend of mine. A bone stock GTO would walk you.

Sounds like your buddy doesn't know how to tune his car LS1, 81 mph is weak. Some people do more harm than good.
I don't think we have to worry very much about stock GTO's. I don't care for the new ones, but I'd really like to build a 66 or 67 and throw a 455 in it. Later.

I know, I was using LS1 as his name as in LS1's love skittles. Anyway it's funny that it took 40 years for a GTO to turn times that a 1962 Maxwedge car would turn right out of the showroom.
Oh well, I'll give credit where it's due, the Australians made a fine car in that new GTO.

i dont know about that LS1s...while i have seen some awful drivers stumble SRT4s into the high 14s...i have also seen a stage 1, with a turbo downspout, no cat or exhaust, a home made IC sprayer, the interior stripped and 15 inch DRs run 12.80s...there is a guy at the track who usually runs a Sick WS6..trailer queen...runs 11.20s..its very stock looking, but obviously not stock. his wife has a stage 1 srt4, and with him driving it, with a decent set of tires and a home made Ram air...he runs 13.60-70s...there is also one guy who has run a new GTO at the same track and with an auto and he is only running high 13s/low 14s...so with a good driver and some minor mods, there is no reason that an SRT4 cant at least hang in with a new GTO.

IDK. I've personally never seen an SRT-4 run 8's yet. We have TONS of them around here, but they all run bottom to mid 9's at an awful mph. Dodge should have definately made them RWD.

hmm..i dont know what the 1/8 mile times they are turning ere are..we only have 1/4 mile tracks...i must say...i ran a guy who had a complete custom setup...before we ran, he told me "go easy on me, i only have 4 cylinders" ...well, i launched, something like a 1.70-1.71 60'..and pulled him hard..expecting to walk him...at about the 1/8 mile i realized he was closing, quick...by 1000' he had caught and passed me...i ran a 12.69 @ 105 something...he ran a 12.20 @ 118ish...but i talked to him about it after the run..told me that he ran in the low 11s with slicks.....he also told me that the only thing that came stock on the car was the block...headwork...custom turbo..exhaust...dif work...suspension work...evidently he works for someplace that makes turbines for aircraft, and they basically made a little version for him...it was something else...

This whole GTO vs. SRT-4 thing is quite amusing considering what they are. If we are talking '04 GTO vs. '04 SRT-4, then it's either a draw or a drivers race, because I've seen both run these times in the high 13's. If it's an '05 GTO then it's an obvious victory with it's 50 added horsepower. When they first came out I was watching the stock '03 SRT-4's running 13.7-13.9 and the Stage 1 cars were running 13.0-13.2, but these were the manufacturers cars. I've seen these numbers repeated, but not often. I've even seen some SRT-4's run patheticly slow low 15's, it all comes down to the driver. You also have to look at the drivers of these cars, most SRT-4 owners are young and very green at the track, while most GTO owners are usually older and more experienced.
