What is an active driver?
Before each race, you must select four starting drivers via your Team page. This active group must include one driver from the A List, two from the B List, and one from the C List.
Click the appropriate Select link from your Team page to change your drivers for that group.
To activate a driver, click the check box next to his name and then click Submit Changes button.
While all drivers on your roster are eligible to receive qualifying bonus points, only your activated driver will be able to collect points for the week's race.
If you change a driver's status, you must click the Submit Changes button, or your moves will not be saved.

From what I understand once you have picked your 8, you wait untill they qualify and then make your desission based upon how they qualify. you can change who is on your 8 man up untill 2am the day of qualifying. after qualifying you have untill 5 minuts before the schedualed start time to select the 4 guys you want to race.

8 drivers are picked for before qualifying. points are based on how they qualify.
you pick 2 drivers from the "A" list, 4 drivers from te "B" list, and 2 drivers from the "C" list.
after qualifying but before the race starts you pick:
1 driver from your "A" list, 2 drivers from your "B" list, and 1 driver from your "C" list.
These 4 "active" drivers are what your race points are based on.
in other words you have an 8 man team, with 4 starters (active drivers)
and 4 bench warmers (reserve drivers).
but becareful of how many times you start a driver,
each driver can only be started 9 times a season.
after 9 they no longer aquire points.
