Couple of track questions
Ive got 2000 RC Dakota with the 4.7 and a few mods done to it. Took it on the 1/8 mile not to long ago and ran a 9.80 ET with a 2.32 60 ft time. That was with no weight reduction like tailgate off spare tire out things like this and it was with no mods, so just a stock truck nothing done to it. Well since then Ive put the airiad cold air intake system on it and a catback flowmast exhuast on it. Are there any little things that I can do to help me lower my time? Also this may be a dumb question and Im kinda asshambed to ask but where are the spark plugs on the 4.7? LOL. Does anyone know what a stock 4.7 Regular cab 2wd truck runs on the strip? i though a 9.7 was pretty fast, my buddies 01 R/t only runds a 9.7
This is on regular street tires and a auto. I'm launching by droping the tranny into first loading up on the brake and gas at the same time till I get to like 2500 then waiting for the green? You know of any better launching techniques?
Lower your back tire pressures to 18psi, when you leave, leave when the third yellow comes on. What was your reaction time?
If you can, get some spare 15" rims and throw some slicks on.

2500 stall on a stock converter? Aggggh! What are you thinkin'? No more than 1000... ever. No wonder you're spinnin'. Drop your rear tire pressure to 19psi. If you can do a short burn out... do it in 2nd gear only... or just let er go from a 1000 stall to warm 'em up if you have room. 1.81 60's are not imposssible on street tires. When I was fairly stock... my 1/8th was consistantly 9.0. Take the spare tire 'n all the junk out. Leave the tail gate on. Put the tranny in Drive, OD OFF. Tell your friend with the R/T to do the same.
A stocker should run mid 15's.

i must say, I am very intregued by your idea of not bringing the RPMs up on launch. Is it a proven fact that flashing the convertor helps with this exact vehicle? because I hear alot of "that hurts your times" with my car, which simply isnt true. In my stock stratus i have flashed and gone from the peak stall RPM, which is around 2200, and it runs much better times when its on the convertor.
black dak, what kind of tires do you have? I would also suggest dropping the pressure down...do you know what the pressure was at your last run?

Hearsay is mostly crap from those who've never or have seldom staged against the tree. I 'been doin' this with 'matics since '66. Some w/manual reverse pattern valve bodies and 4000 stall converters. Drivin' a stick 'n a 'matic are two different animals. Torquin' a 'matic up high only shocks the tires into breaking traction. I doubt much if you have traction bars of any kind also. About slicks... in street classes you cannot run them. If you don't have the grunt to turn them... you don't need them anyway. Drop your tires to 19 psi on the Dakota. If you see the green you're too late. Stage shallow (stage bulb... 2nd on the tree) 'n leave on the 3rd yellow.
i dont know..every automatic that i have ever run has run faster when you bring it against the TC. if i try to flash the mirada, it smokes the tires...i really dont see how bringing the RPMs up encourages the tires to spin...putting the truck in geatr encourages the tires to spin...
and if that was intended to be a shot of some sort at me, i have made at least 100 passes a year, if not more, over the last 8 years, and racing both sticks and autos, launching at idle is for the street...if i launch my RT fro idle instead of 2000+ i lose a tenth in the 60' time.
