SRT-4 vs 1993 Camaro Z28
I went out to pick up my son Saturday evening and on the way home, with him and his bicycle on board we came upon a 1993 Z28 on a red light. When I stopped beside him, he looked over and reved it a few times to let me know he wanted to race. He was riding alone and I had a 150 pound passanger. I told my son the Z28 had a V8 and is very fast, so we can't beat him, but I would give it my best shot. I'm not a sore loser.
When the light went green I launched pretty good and pulled slightly on him in first. By the time I reached the top of second gear, I was very supprised to be ahead of him. In third I pulled away even farther. I had about two car lengths on him by the time he gave up at around 100 mph. I was shocked. This little srt-4 is even faster than I realized.
When we slowed down I pulled in on a parking lot and he pulled in behind me and stopped for a talk. He wanted to know what I had and said he was very supprised that I took him. He said that his car was a 5 speed with 275 horsepower and 330 pound feet of torque.
I left there quite pleased with my srt-4. Especially considering I had a passenger on board and my car is bone stock.

good kill! i am not surprised that you beat him. figure, that car has a 12 yo LT1, which has probably been beaten for those 12 years, especially if he is the original owner, in which case im sure that he didnt just start racing.
1993 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.8 14.4
With a time like that, and thats with a professional driver, so long as you are competant, which you proved that you are, you should have the advantage. great job putting hmi in his place...

Sorry to be the killjoy here but I have to speak up and say that I think it's incredibly irresponsible to street race - ESPECIALLY WITH YOUR KID IN THE CAR!!!!! In fact, it's criminally STUPID!
Now, you can all start flaming me if you want to but a 12 year old was just killed about a month ago three blocks from my house because a crotch rocket riding moron t-boned his family SUV right where the kid was sitting. Don't give me any of that crap that you are a good driver and know what you are doing, etc., etc. I ain't buyin'. There are too many things that you can't control on the street to convince me that you can do race there without undue risk to you or anyone else. I've seen too many "good drivers" hurt innocent bystanders. My brother is a retired LA fire captain and has a whole book of training pictures where they had to clean up after Fast and Furious wannabes. Time to grow up and be responsible when you have a performance car or truck. I taught my kids to save it for the track. They do, and they are converting their friends to do the same. I carry a sign in my Belvedere for the rare occasion when someone one revs on me that says' "If you don't run 11s, don't waste my time." The other day two kids in a Mustang hung back in traffic to get beside me in the SRT. They popped the clutch at about 20 mph and got this pathetic little chirp. They looked over to see what I was going to do so I gave them the biggest yawn I could muster (if I did the same thing I would have left about 30 feet of black stripes on the pavement).
I'm not saying you never "blow the carbon out of your car," you just have use common sense and a little wisdom.
