Everyone does realize that Chevy does make a Cobalt SS Coupe that is NOT supercharged. It still has 170hp and 160 torque, which would still beat an SXT pretty easilly unless the driver was an 80 year old woman!

I know his story has to be BS, i have an R/T and i probably couldnt beat the non s/c SS, or it would be close. But ya know...that twin custom cold air intake must give his SXT at least 50 horses at the wheels! lol

i think it is funny how a 2nd gen neon runs slower in the quarter than a 1st gen. i mean, my 95 was in the 17.4 and the 2nd gens i have watched were runnin 18-19's. why is that? the car is newer with a newly redesigned engine.
i have no idea how i beat the ss, the guy probably didnt know he was in a race! rotflmao!

Well the standard 2.0 might be slower (not sure about the SE and SXT times), but the Gen 1 R/T Neons are like .1-.2 second slower than a 4-door Gen 2 R/T in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile...For example, my R/T runs a 7.3 0-60 and 15.7 1/4 mile with all the stuff i've done to it so far (those numbers arent from a dragway or anything, that was a friend in the passenger seat with a stop watch and a 1/4 marked off on a back road).
Anyone with a Gen 1 R/T or SXT like to post numbers?
The only data i have on that is stuff Ive found on the internet, havent actullay seen a Gen 1 Vs. Gen 2 before at a drag way or on the street...would be interesting to see though.

The first gen ('98-'99) Neon R/T coupe runs 15.9 in the 1/4 mile stock. I still have the article from one of the major magazines, it's either from C&D, R&T or MT I believe. The '99 Neon R/T coupe with Mopar Performance PCM, Mopar Performance chrome header & cat-back exhaust, Iceman CAI, MSD coil, Mopar Performance plug wires and REX motor mount inserts I use to have ran a 14.82 in the 1/4 mile earlier this year. I wish I could have kept it, but I had to sell it to be able to get my SRT-4.

i have raced 2nd gens out at our local drag, and beleive me, they are slow, i have a 4dr sedan sport, and when it was stock i still spanked em easily. my car only runs 16.1 with exhaust done. i just didnt know why the 2nd gens are soooo slow in the first place.

As they continue to build cars, even though they get smaller they gain weight. From electric this and power that to this saftey feature and those sound deadeners, they just keep on craming more and more into them. If they were to have continued the Neon line it would most likey have yeilded a 2+ ton Neon given enough time and crap to stuff into them. The first gens were the lightest and with the exception of the SRT-4, they never increased the power above 150 horsepower max from the beginning to the end.
