Default 06' 300C SRT-8 vs. 69' Roadrunner

Found this on Allpar and thought it was interesting. I didn't know the Roadrunner was that fast of a car.

Yeah 1969 is a year or two before the dreaded unleaded fuel. Thats why they are called muscle cars. Most of us under the age of 45 never got in on the muscle cars. My dad used to have a mach 1 cobrajet. he's unimpressed by most of todays "hotrods" and rightly so.

SRT8 running a 12.7 from the factory is an excellant et and very impressive for a sedan.

they really are awesome, and straight line is only the tip of the iceberg with that car. but do you think that is stock? thats ALOT faster than the car was rated by the various reviewers. i thought thay these were stock numbers:

0-60: 4.9
0-100: 11.7
Standing Quarter Mile: 13.21 @ 108

(although 108 is a great QM time for a 13.20 run)

There is no way that SRT-8 was stock running those times. The bigger badder Hemi is something, but in a car that heavy there is no way it's that bad.

those times look like crossfire srt-6 times. The sedan with its extra 95 horses is as fast as the 330 hp srt-6? and if you magazine race the best i can remember was 13.3 quarter time. hmm.. the charger srt-8 is the cheapest of the three and has the 6.1. Not a bad deal. But what times is the 07 cobra going to put down? same range as the charger srt-8. Would be a nice comparo for the future.

How many mags tested a vehicle and got the most out of it?

The SRT10 Ram was pegged at 13.5-14.0 yet Ive seen slips of a couple in the 13.2s stock with good drivers.

108mph on a heavy vehicle is faster than a low 13. My Rams best trap speed is 104 and ran a 12.9/102. 108 sounds about right for a 12.7 et at that weight. Maybe it did have a mod or two, how much is available for a 6.1? headers, airbox only, no tuner/chip yet.

true about the SRT10 ram, but alot of that is launch technique with the 6 speed. ive launched an SRT8, and its an auto, with no high stall, so it doesnt take a world of skill like it does to launch a front heavy 505hp truck.

in my travels, i have seen companies who make stuff for the new hemi, and isnt the 6.1 just a enlarged displacement 5.7? i dont actually know. 108 is a great mph, but like 71rr said, that is a terribly heavy car. it could be that he got a bunch of weight out of it?

It's sure a lot of fun to run new versus old school. I'd love to have either of those cars but neither of them were stock. The stock SRT8s in the real world are running consistent mid to low 13s. Keep in mind that this is only drag racing. The SRT8 also corners pretty well and has a lot of luxury features on board. And, it feels like a routine trip down the interstate when you're running well over 120 mph. The old musclecars were bricks and start floating at those speeds even with suspension upgrades. Looking at the 60 ft. times you can see that the RR had some sort of drag tire to hook that well. The SRT8 had to be running a street tire on those rims. On the other hand, the RR didn't rely on computers, EPS, etc. and those 6 bbls are not easy to tune right. As good as the 300 looks, '69 Roadrunners have to be one of the best looking cars of all time, just barely behind a '70 Cuda IMO. It's fun to play with cars, ain't it?

They now have headers, catbacks, CAI, etc. for the SRT8s. They had several PCM upgrades in the works and some of them might be available by now.

A couple of the magazines hit high 12s in their Ram SRT-10 tests with 0 to 60 times in the high 4s but then some of them were as slow as 13.8 and 5.5 respectively so take magazine tests for what they are worth.

As far as being impressed with today's hot rods, I was around in the Musclecar era and loved it. They were brutal and exciting. Modern technology, however, is taking cars to performance levels we never dreamed possible. There are incredible choices out there. Engines are making way more power with half the displacement while still meeting strict emission and fuel economy regulations. Car bodies are built better and must meet strict safety restrictions which also add a lot of weight. And, as I mentioned earlier, modern cars do a lot more than just go fast in a straight line. Even stock, my truck could run better than most at the drag strip, rip up an autocross circuit, carve mountain twisties, set top speed records, stop as well as exotic sportscars and yet be mild mannered enough that my wife could comfortably cruise to the grocery store. So, even being an old school kind of guy who still loves and builds musclecars, I'm very impressed with modern hot rods.
