RE: crotch rockets..
I need to get a bike someday. Not to ride daily, just to roll around town with once in awhile. But yeah, its not fair how much faster bikes are than cars. I'd probably crash if I rode it too much, I like high speeds. Don't those Hayabusa's come with like 160hp or 180hp stock (something like that)? But yet because they are so light that translates into some crazy speed and acceleration. I've seen some of these bikes at the track and all I can say is wow. Did the quarter mile in under 10 seconds without a problem and he was going right into the wind!

I agree. While the zx 10 is a fast bike, it is not that fast. Cycle World mag. tested the kaw to have 155.5 h.p. @11,500 rpm with 77.9ft. lb. torque @ 9,250 rpm. They also tested the kaw to run the 1/4 in 10.12 @143.04 mph. That was the fastest out of all the litre bikes. The Suzuki Hayabusa is a lot heavier than the zx 10 but it gets its job done because of the extra torque the 1300 cc engine allows it to have. The busa has been tested to have 156.1 hp @ 9,500 rpm @ the rear wheel with 99.0 ft lb. of torque @6,750 rpm. It has been tested to do the 1/4 in 9.88 @ 143.88 mph. Needless to say that all sport bikes (crotch rockets) are very fast and will go faster than anyone has buisness going no matter what size you are riding. For me, I'll stick to my busa.

I appreciate slakr's advice. At my advanced age of 48 I have a lot of friends who have been beat up pretty bad in some nasty bike crashes. Among them is my good friend who now drives a good lookin' '73 Challenger - when he's feeling up to it. He says he can either choose to be pain free and so doped up that he barely knows where he is or he can just hurt all the time. He is only in his mid 40s and is frustrated and depressed because he can't work anymore.
While I admire what can be done on these bikes in the hands of someone who really knows how to drive them, they are a really good way to "thin the herd" in the over-confident hands of most riders (It's the ones who "think" they know what they are doing that are the scariest). If crotch rockets are your thing, more power to you. For me, I'll take four wheels with a lot of metal around me any day. Either way, be safe out there.
