Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default 88-93 fuel tank swap

I have to replace the 35 gallon tank on my '93 Ramcharger (318 tbfi). I found an '88 today, for $10, and would like some input on the swap. The '88 tank is identical to the '93, except for the shape of the sending unit hole. The '88 is narrower in diameter, and not threaded like the '93. The '88 sending unit was missing from the donor vehicle. Can I make the '93 work?

Welcome to DF
Can you buy the sending unit for a 1988 fuel tank and then install it?

I don't know. The pressure requirement from the sender are possibly different. I am thinking of putting the guts of the '93 sender into an '88 unit. The '93 fuel sending unit simply won't fit through the hole of the '88 tank.

Have you tried looking for a newer gas tank? Maybe 1994 or 95.

Default 93 fuel sending unit

I wanted to post some pictures, in case it helps someone else. Note that the tanks are IDENTICAL except for the neck. My attempt to repair the '93 tank is included. I could still probably use this tank, but don't want to risk another leak, if I don't have to. If someone has an '88 sending unit, from any truck or van, and can post pics (or links to) of the top and side, I would appreciate it.
