Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default 1977 880 pickup; broken front axle?

I have an M880 military pickup, It has a wonky 4WD lever and I unfortunately left it unknowingly in 4WD lock when I drove to the dump a short ways on payment and I did a sharp turn and heard a BOOM in the front right side. I think I broke an axle there, have not crawled under the truck yet but what should I look for and what is most likely broken? I began hearing some grinding noises in that area yard driving it around my house...so I wont' drive it any more, until I can take a look obviously. Any info greatly appreciated, I have not taken anything apart in the front driveline before so don't really know how it's put together.

if you don't know how to do it try to take it to a professional I would not recommend that you try and fail

You may have blown the universal joint in that axle at the knuckle. Military vehicles are designed for field servicing.

It has full time 4WD so driving on asphalt is not an issue. What is you hear a BOOM and grinding noises and don't look to see what it is. ???

Should be an NP203 t-case, so, it does have a locked option for 4x4 as well, and yeah, driving it that way on pavement WILL break stuff.
