They just need to re-key the ignition lock cylinder to your existing key. Average locksmith will have everything to do that right in the shop. (at least, they should.....)

Little known fact at least to me is that you can get the dealer to cut you a brand new key with the VIN and proof of ownership. I mention this in case your existing key is wonky after what happened. I think I paid $25

That's not off, that's on.

Again, I'd do the switch AND the cylinder, and just pull the pair out.

The ignition lock has a pin the fits into the column. When the key is in the run position this allows the pin to be pushed in and the lock cylinder to be removed. A flat screen driver in the key slot and turned with vise grips should allow the cylinder to be turned with some force and allow the pin to be pushed to remove the lock cylinder. As stated previously take the old key and new lock to a locksmith and have it keyed to the old key.

I'm not 100% sure about a 93 but from what it looks like in the pdf file the lock cylinders can not be changed. Meaning they are swedged together during manufacturing. No way to take it apart to change the tumblers. You can change the lock cylinder but it will be a different key. Unless you order a replacement from the factory.

This is the case for the second gen rams up to 97 or 98 when they changed the design.

I also have been told that they can't rekey the ignition lock cylinder; but they can rekey the door cylinders.

OTOH, I'm cheap; I currently carry two keys due to having replaced the ignition lock cylinder in my 1988 (different key/switch design).

(On the 1988, you can drill out the lock pin and pull the cylinder if it's jammed ... but again, different design, le sigh.)

Ruff16965 - what you may want to do is to buy new door locks; get them rekeyed to match the new ignition cylinder; and replace them. The labor to replace the locks is a lot more than the price of the cylinders. (Matter of fact, I have a full set sitting to the side for when I take a round tuit and redo my doors ... )

I had this happen to me on the road 3 days after I got my 92, we took off in it to Branson Mo.
I stopped at an Oreillys along the way they didn't have, found a store down the road along our route that had a lock cylinder. At that location the counterman asked "why mess with it/why not call a locksmith"?
Because this is my 5th 87-96 Dakota and 3rd that I have had this issue on, and I had tools with me. I had it changed in the parking lot in less than 15 min. I don't call to "have" ANYTHING done to my vehicles by others, except things like windshield replacement and front end alignment,. I even overhaul my own trannys and rear end if the need arises.

VerticalScope has screwed the pooch in the most recent forum update across their platform; the Mustang and now TCCoA is being slammed like crazy. (Disclaimer: I am a super mod on TCCoA).
