I own a 1996 dodge ram 3500 4x4 5 spd12v truck, Just change the rear end gears to 3:54s...my tires are 235/85r16 and now the speedo is off. I was told i needed a 29 tooth gear, just installed it now the speedo reads a bit to fast. I checked the chart again and it says 29 but that's wrong. Any ideas on what gear will get me closer probably a 30 or 31 i:m thinking.

ok i double checked the tires, They are 31 tall. Where is the best place to find these gears. They aren't cheap on Ebay.

 

2WD or 4WD? The one in my truck ended up being the short shaft style that's in my transfer case, but I believe that the 2WD transmission takes the same style gear... When I changed out my truck to 4.10 gearing in the front and rear, I found the speedo pinion gear I needed on eBay. I seem to recall that it was used, but in great shape. Unfortunately, not much is reasonably priced much anymore. Shop around. Google can help..
