Hey everyone. Im having difficuoty finding tires for my 1973 winnibago the size on the tire says. 8.75R 16.5 im wondering if there is a normal tire size i could put on the rim. Rims are an 8 bolt pattern. Iv tried to cross refrence but im not getting any hopefull results.

I have a conversion chart from the 1980's somewhere but finding it after 40 years might be an issue. Here are some sites you can go to;

Do you have safety rims or split rims? Split rims were still used back then on large trucks. If you have split, you REALLY want to put later rims on it. Splits can be killers. Personally, if you have to change rims, I'd go with 17 inch rims. Tire selection will be wider. 16.5 tires are still available, but not common. You MUST use 16.5 on your current rims. 16's won't fit and 17's will pop right off. In addition, if you have a more common tire, replacing a damaged tire on the road is easier.

Aren't those bias-ply tires as well??? I would be real tempted to convert those numbers to the P-metric tire size, and buy something in a load range D, or even E, radial tire.......

Im new to this so i dont no how to answer anybody individually but anyways. They are not split rims. They are normal hub piloted rims. Also i thought about going to 17 inch rims but the clearance from the tire to the outter wheel well is slim to none. Legitaybe a few pieces of paper could fit inbeteen. Being a winnibago it is a heavy and aqwardly weight distributed machine. Im worried about the safety and reliability factor. I dont no if its bias ply or what the load range is. Ill look into that. I found my tires for almost 300 a tire and i need 6 tires. Being an old machine that i wont drive much. I dont want to spend money like that. Thats insain. But i dont want to make the wrong decision thats gunna have me at the side of the road if i go on vacation
