2013 Ram 1500 Black Express

While production for the 2014 Ram 1500 will begin soon, the Chrysler Group has announced a new trimline package for the Ram 1500 with a sinister look and an affordable price – the new Ram Black Express.  Building on the success of the low cost Ram 1500 Express, the Black Express  package coats nearly the entire exterior in gloss black to give this truck a dark, aggressive personality with some high tech goodies from more expensive trimlines completing the look.

The 2013 Ram 1500 Black Express is an exterior appearance package adding a touch of functionality with a price (according to the RamTrucks.com configurator page) of $1,495.  That price adds a black front fascia with black filler, a black grille surround with black honeycomb and a black Ram’s head logo, black headlight bezels, a black rear bumper, black rear badges, a black Ram’s head logo on the tailgate, black trimmed taillights and black 20 inch wheels.  To provide a touch of that aftermarket look, the Black Express doesn’t come with any side badging on the doors or fenders but it does feature the chrome dual exhaust package standard on all Express models.

The goal was for the Ram Black Express to be the baddest looking factory truck on the market today.   Mission accomplished.

“Ram Trucks are known for their bold, in-your-face presence,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Ram Truck Brand. “The new Black Express takes Ram’s aggressive good looks to an all new sinister level by ‘blackening out’ the entire truck while maintaining a great price.”

Like the traditional Ram 1500 Express, the Ram Black Express comes with a standard 5.7L Hemi V8 sending 395 horsepower and 410lb-ft of torque to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.  Buyers can pick between the Regular Cab, Quad Cab or Crew Cab configuration with either rear wheel drive or all wheel drive.

“With HEMI® power and sport-truck styling, the Ram 1500 Express has been one of our most popular models,” added Bigland. “Young and first-time buyers expect to get a lot for their money. Ram 1500 Express gives them great looks along with HEMI® horsepower, torque, towing and payload, in a choice of cab sizes — all at a fantastic price.”

Chrysler expects that the first examples of the 2013 Ram 1500 Black Express will reach dealerships before the end of this month and considering how quickly the 2013 model year is coming to an end – I wouldn’t wait long if you want to get your hands on one of these great looking Black Express pickups.  This truck should be just the thing that Ram needs to help close out the 2013 model year strong as it is one awesome looking truck with a ton of power – and a low price.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
