Does the gauge slowly climb up as RPM increases? Or does it just suddenly decide there is no oil pressure? If the latter, replace the sensor.

when i get to idle the light will come on then it will suddenly say "you have nothing" then when i step on it it'll jump right back up.

Its probably a bad oil pressure sensor, its not uncommon for them to go bad.

On a side note, was it an easy job to replace the oil pump ?. I have a new oil pump for my truck, but havn`t got around to putting it in yet.

ease buy time consuming. i just took off the starter, engine-to-trans brackets (2), inspection plate, and the oil pan was ready to come off. (on a 4x4... i was told 2wd you have to lift the motor a little due to the cross member) after the oil pan is off then its only two bolts holding the pump on... minus smoke breaks and messing around it took me about 4 or 5 hours

While you've got the pan off it's a good time to replace the rear main seal. That's what we did when we replaced my oil pump (with a high-volume oil pump).

Yeah, the behavior sounds a lot like a bad sending unit. That IS one of its most popular failure modes. Just replace it. (bring your arm with its three elbows though.....)

If you had no oil pressure, you would be hearing the lifters making noise, as well as other bad noises. As long as your not hearing any strange noises, then you can drive it.

Was this the same as before you did the pump and screen change?

Also, does it register pressure on cold start up?
