Default Ram v10 popping in intake

1999 dodge ram 2500 v10. Today on my way to work i noticed my truck start to shake at 55mph like i was on a rough road then when i stopped at a light i noticed it running rough like it was down a cylinder. So i took off from the light and heard a popping noise as i accelerated and acting like it was missing. so i got to work and opened the hood and i could hear a rattle and as you rev it the rattle gets louder like a valve train noise but sounds like its coming from the plenum and when you rev it hard or take off fast it pops or backfires in the intake. so i drove it home and checked that i had spark to all plugs and pulled the plugs to make sure they were firing and they all looked good with the exception of 1 being a little carboned up and smelled a little like fuel but still sparking bright blue. At first i thought maybe a valve wasnt working like a broken spring or something but now im wondering if maybe its a fuel problem like maybe its running lean or fat on a cylinder like a bad injector but i cant understand the rattle im hearing. so if anyone has any input id appreciate it.

Check fuel pressure. See what that looks like.

How old are your O2 sensors? Getting any engine codes?

Go to your local big-chain parts store, they should have one you can rent/borrow for a few minutes.

These V10's are know to break a rocker bolt and cause a miss like you describe. There's a video on youtube about it. Does your engine sound like this?

maybe not as loud of a knock but it does sound like that. and the way its acting made me think a valve problem. but i wonder if this would also make it backfire in the intake.

If the intake valve isn't closing, it sure would.

Well it was a broken rocker bolt. Of coarse it was the very back cylinder on the pass side so I had to get a right angle attachment for my drill so I could use an easy out to get the bolt out, but I got it out and should have it running today! Oh yeah and I guess it gets a new plenum gasket since I had to remove the plenum to remove pass side valve cover. Thanks for the help this is why I like forums like these.

Awesome! Happily consuming large quantities of fuel again?
