If it is cracked, any chance he could have that one cylinder bored and a sleeve installed? I did that on a 460 quite a few years ago and it worked out fine. A lotta work and you wouldn't want to do it to a performance engine, but for my applications it was OK. But that was for a 460 Ford, versus a 360 or 318 Dodge.

I would rather replace the block, than sleeve it...... The big block ford has a lot more meat to play with.... and 360 blocks are a dime a dozen at the wrecking yard.
If he isn't too far away, I have a whole motor that he can have for dirt cheap. It needs a rebuild, but, was a runner when it was pulled.

Well, you are probably 800 miles or more from me...... so, for the gas you would spend coming here, you could probably buy three motors.
Basically, you just want a rebuildable core...... or, if you can find a low-mileage motor, just drop it in, and run it. If the truck has been sitting a while, that might be the smarter route to take, to see what other issues might crop up. It would be a real drag to spend a couple thousand dollars on a motor, just to find something else further down the line (and equally expensive...) was also toast.
Most yards will warranty their motors for 30 days or so. Generally, if they last that long, if you take care of it, you can get quite a few more miles out of it. Anything from a 94 to 02 Ram will work, just put your intake, and other sensors on it, and drop it in. (remove the crank sensor before pulling the motor, and install the motor before installing the crank sensor, otherwise, it's highly likely you will be buying a new one.)
