Default Overheating

Got the intake in but now it's over heating. I can't figure out why, Temp gauge is reading 240+ at idle . I thought I had gotten all the air out . and I'm sure I put the thermostat in properly .
It's been a long day and I'm at a loss as to what might be causing this.

Any Ideas

How long have you let it run? Did you drill a small hole in the thermostat? (lets air escape easier, but, the engine still warms up.

Did you use any kind of sealer on the coolant temp sensor? (you have two, two-wire for PCM, one-wire for gauge.) Temp sensor on your truck grounds thru the manifold. High resistance means higher perceived temp. (I think....)

Temp sensor for the gauge grounds thru the manifold.

Also: I know when I changed my radiator, the gauge got pretty high before the thermostat actually opened, and allowed coolant to circulate......

I backflushed the heater core to make sure it was full. There is a convenient break in one hose, about halfway down the passenger side valve cover. The other line, I pulled off the steel tube coming out of the water pump, and put a cork in it. Then, I flowed water from the water pump side, back thru the other hose, keep both ends as high as possible. Hooked 'em back up, trying to lose as little as I could. Heater core stopped gurgling, and my heat was HOT.

If there is still air trapped under the thermostat, the coolant will get pretty hot before it convinces the stat to open. That's why drilling the 1/8th inch hole in is a good idea.

That should purge the air quite handily. (but, not the heater core, that was simply bad design decision on chryslers part.)

I would be real tempted to verify the temp with the IR gun..... Just to see if the gauge is lying to you or not.

Guess I'm going to buy an IR thermometer .
Tore every thing back down to the block, no blockages found
put everything back, Re installed old thermostat (just to see)
Installed NEW radiator and hoses .
Temp gauge still reading 240.
Granted it's only 40 degrees hotter than the 200 I'm used to.
I Just don't want to see it hit the red on the gauge.
need to drive it some and wait for the codes to start popping up again.
and start over
