I bought a set of 4.10 gears a few months back and finally made my appointment to get them installed in 2 days. I'm now wondering if I should have gotten 4.56s. What do you think? It's my daily driver and I tow my 16ft bass boat 3-4 times a month during the summer. The truck sits on factory 4th gen 20's which I believe has me right at 32". Truck has the following mods: 206/212 .480 cam, Hughes intake, K&N CAI, SCT Tune, Pacesetter LT's. What are your thoughts will I be happy with 4.10 or regret not getting 4.56?
If you don't plan on bumping up to something like 35's, I think the 4.10s will suit you just fine. However, if you do plan on ever going to larger tires, NOW is the time to do the gears for it. You don't wanna pay for that job twice.
I've got 4.10 gears in my truck with 33" tires (285/75/16"). I think it works perfect. I can still maintain highway speeds with the OD off if needed (like towing something), and it also cruises nicely at high-legal speeds with the OD on.
4.10 and 33" tires here too. I think it's a perfect combo.
4.56 would probably have you running at 2500 rpm when you were doing 70mph on the highway with the overdrive on and no trailer. That's a guess because my tach reads about 300 rpm higher with 4.10 vs 3.55 at 70mph.
Dropped the truck off this morning and got a call a little bit ago that my axle bearings were shot and there was some sort of modification kit that allowed the bearing to ride at a different spot on the axle for an additional $100. I told him to go ahead and do it, but is that something you guys are familiar with?
