Default Power locks not working

My power locks are not working. They don't work with the key remote, door switch, and they don't lock when you reach 18mph. Tried to find a fuse but cannot find one marked power locks, plus everything else works ok. Hope someone can help. This van has cost me a lot of money and it's only a 2005 Grand Caravan.

Default RE: Power locks not working

this is a factory defect for mostly 2005 dodge caravans. dealer must repair this problem for free. there is a TSB regarding this problem.it has something to do with reprogramming the computer. a quick fix is disconnecting for 10 seconds theIOD fusein the fuse box located in the engine compartment. this will temporarily make the locks work for e few days. good luck.

The dealer does not fix cars and vans with TSB for free, unless the car is still under warranty or emission warranty. The 1st thing is ck the rolling door locks to see if they are enable and ck the power door locks module for codes. There maybe a problem with one or more actuator.

This is off topic, and sorry. What is the easiest way to get to those spark plugs by the firewall on the 02 Dodge Caravan?

I got it mixed up. I meant the recalls are done for free, not the TSB... sorry.

The power lock problem on the original post is a common problem with 2005 dodge caravan models. It happened to my 05 caravan just a few days ago and unplugging the IOD fuse for about 10 seconds then replugging fixes the problem.

I'm glad I found this thread as I've been battling this exact problem with our 2005 Chrysler T&C. I pulled the IOD fuse as suggested, and it's working again without issue.

Does anyone have a general cost of getting this fixed at the dealer (outside of warranty)?

Thanks!

Also, does anyone know the TSB #? I looked through several sites with 2005 TSB's for both Chrysler and Dodge, and I don't see any TSB's related to the door locks.

It's been approximately 2 years since I encountered the problem with the power locks of my 2005 Grand Caravan. Never brought the van to the dealer for this problem. After unplugging the IOD fuse a couple of times... the problem just disappeared. Oh well!... time is a great healer.

there are 2 TSB's listed for lock problems. both require new flash programming. the best way to find out cost it to contact your local Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep dealer

Thanks for the many replies on this thread. My wife's 2005 SXT Grand Caravan locks went non functional last month. It's been a pain manually locking and unlocking. Also, why does the drivers door only have a key lock and not the passenger side.

OK, I'll try the IOD fuse/relay trick and see if that fixes things.
(It worked !!!)

This is the second wacky issue with the electronics. I had once started the van with the key FOB and accidentally pressed a button on the FOB while starting. The dash lights and all of the gauges stopped working. So, driving the van at night was not possible. It took three days to figure out how to hit the right key FOB combination and start the van to reactivate the dash and gauges. errrr. LOL

approximately 13.5 volts.
10. Connect the DRBIIIŽ to the vehicle.
11. Turn the ignition to the "Run" position (engine not running).
12. Download the flash from the DRBIIIŽ to the vehicle. Using the DRBIIIŽ select:
a. "Vehicle Flash"
b. Follow the directions on the DRBIIIŽ screen.
13. Verify that the problem cannot be repeated by cycling the ignition switch OFF/ON and
actuating both door lock switches a few times. If any door lock failure still persists then
further diagnosis is necessary. Verify the BCM "Software p/n" was updated to the new
software p/n using Diagnosis Step #2.

NOTE: Due to the BCM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other modules
(TCM, PCM, MIC, SKIM, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's
may cause the MIL to illuminate. Check all modules using "Module Scan",
record the DTC's, and erase these DTC's prior to returning the vehicle to the
customer. Erase any DTC's in the PCM only after all other modules have had
their DTC's erased.

Thumbs up Pulling the IOD fuse works!

After reading posts on this forum, I have had no working locks via remote or on the driver's door controls. I also have a 2005 Caravan. I just tried pulling the 20 amp IOD fuse, waited 10 seconds and reinserted the fuse. I heard a very faint "click" when I put the fuse in. I tried my remote first...and presto! the locks work again! I tried using the lock controls on the driver's door, and they work as well!

Thank you so much posters!

Thanks so much! It worked. Are you sure about it being a free repair at the dealer? My car is a 2005 with 101K miles on it. Kenneth 1389

It's not free. The original poster that you quoted was corrected right after he posted that.

Default Alternate fix

After dealing with the 05 GC lock problem for 2 years, I decided to try a different approach after the IOD fix began to last only 1 day. The dealer wanted at least $500 to replace the BCM and like most of you $$$ is tight. The software update seemed to be a temporary fix as well so... I got the part and serial # off the BCM ( located behind the fuse box under dash on driver's side). I went to the junk yard and bought a "newer" used one from a scrapped GC with less miles and replaced it myself.( Cost was less than $80.00) Works like a charm. The only problem is that my GC which has 198,000 miles on it now shows 101,000 miles. Six months and so far no problems! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Where is the IOD fuse? What does IOD stand for?
