Default 96 Dodge ram 1500 v8 5.9 won't stay running

Ok my truck starts great but within seconds it slowly Bogs down then shuts off. It will stay on with pressure applied to gas and will drive but has to be done so like a standard while mine is automatic. it will sometimes shut off at stops or descending downhill pretty much anytime gas is not applied. Drives smooth when accelerating but low rpms and high rpms the truck don't idle right.o one day I helped pull a cavalier 16 miles on a car dolly after that pull The truck had awful idle with white grey smoke puffing out exhaust, wouldn't stay running until after couple minutes accelerating RMS in park while running then it stayed on but had rough idle still with no power.i then did major work started with plenum gaskets then electrical stuff then timing chain was last, still runs as first described..
I've replaced alot 😊IAC,TPS, map sensor, plenum gaskets cleaned throttle body, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil, crank sensor and pick up coil,
purge solenoid, new timing chain, water pump, fan clutch, recent oil change+transmission fluid change with new filter, new battery, alternator, fuel pump seems to be good working (starts and runs) while plenum gaskets were being changed guy said valves looked good timing was advanced so he adjusted. Timing was set right I know throwing money at it but it's alright I plan on keeping this truck plus everything is lifetime warranty . I've had several options left,,, bad pcm. Bad torque converter throwing idle off, clogged or bent valves, coming up next new torque converter and transmission rebuild maybe so engine rebuild.. Any help is much appreciated even though I may be at the end almost to find solution I'd like to hear from Yall thank you

Timing isn't adjustable... Turning the distributor changes fuel sync.... I.E. When the injectors fire. having that out of spec will give you some truly odd performance problems. Ideally, you want fuel sync at 0, plus or minus 7 degrees is acceptable. Anything else, and the truck simply will not run right.

Welcome to DF!

Some people have issues with aftermarket IAC's. May try a factory one next.

If your mechanic thinks moving the distributor changes timing, you need to start there. If he moved the distributor, your fuel sync is wrong, unless he understands that and hooked up a scanner that reads fuel sync. Fuel sync is like setting the timing of the injectors. The computer controls ignition timing.

No. If it did, you just got lucky.
