This article applies to the Dodge Ram 1500 2nd Generation (1994-2001).

The blower motor switch controls the speed at which the blower motor spins, and thus pushing air into the cabin of your Dodge Ram. At times, this switch can undergo an electrical malfunction or break down from normal wear. It also has brass contacts that can stop relaying signals due to the accumulation of dirt and grime.

Testing the blower motor switch to determine if it's still functioning requires that you remove the switch and use a multimeter to test its continuity. However, since the switch is a relatively cheap component, a simple replacement can save you a lot of time and money.

Materials Needed

  • Replacement blower motor switch (part number: 1964-07037225)
  • Phillips screwdriver

Step 1 – Remove the dashboard trim panel

  • Disconnect the negative terminal (black) of the battery.
  • Using your hands, pry the dashboard trim at the junction between the steering column and the instrument cluster.
  • Carefully work your way to the center dash, popping out the clips. Make sure to remove the trim slowly so as not to damage it or the clips.
  • Fully detach the trim and set it aside.

Step 2 – Unplug the old blower motor switch

  • Pull out the fan speed control knob with your hand.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws holding the climate control switch panel in place.
  • Pull the panel out toward you, but just enough to access the wire harness connectors. Be careful not to yank the entire panel out.
  • Then unplug the blower motor switch behind the panel, which is the first switch on the left.
