Challenger R/T with 850 HP Will Declaw Any Hellcat
Who said a 5.7-liter Challenger can’t make scary amounts of power?
In the world of V8s, a supercharger is almost like a match made in heaven. The two simply work well together. Thankfully, the Challenger makes for an excellent starting point for a bad-ass supercharged build.
Thanks to R/T Life on YouTube, we are able to get a little bit more detail in what exactly a build like this would be like, with a sweet 750 wheel-horsepower R/T Challenger. Consider the fact that the R/T is a mid-level model in the Challenger line-up. Powered by the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, it only makes around 375 HP, which is a long way off from its bigger brother, the 6.4-liter SRT8 making 485 HP. However, what if you could get a 5.7-liter to make more power than a Hellcat? Let’s explain exactly how the owner got this done.
The details on the car are this from what we know from the video. It’s a 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T. However, the owner has taken the 5.7-liter and built the motor, which has now been stroked out to 400cc or 6.5 liters by EMP, a racing and tuning shop in New York. That’s a whole lot more displacement and reliability, which makes for a whole lot more opportunity to make power. This refreshed motor is sporting a cam (we are unsure of the specs) and a D1-X Procharger running around 14 PSI. According to the owner, this a relatively conservative setup and the car is still being dialed in to accept more boost, pending 1000cc injectors and a new tune.
For exhaust, this Challenger is running American Racing long tube headers, catless midpipes and Flowmaster S1 mufflers. For tires, we see a set of Mickey Thompson E/T Streets in a properly massive 305 rear width on a 10.5-inch wheel. We will say that the ProCharger blower on this Challenger sounds absolutely insane. The induction and purging sounds that come along with it are what we would call intoxicating.
The owner says he soon plans on bringing it to the track to see what it can really throw down. We’ll be waiting on that when it happens. So if you were ever discouraged that your 5.7-liter couldn’t make real power compared to some of its competitors, think again and watch this video. Sure it might take a couple dollars and some time, but what that’s worth anything isn’t?
