Demon Makes Mustang GT500 Driver Tap Out in Canada
Demon was ready to battle a fire-breathing Mustang GT500, discovered there wasn’t much push in this pony.
Make no mistake about it. The Dodge Demon is more than a Challenger: it is a drag strip god. Once the extra pair of rear slicks are exchanged for the skinny front tires, only fools would dare mess with the hellfire of this beast. Add 808 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of torque (840 and 770 respectively with the Demon Crate) from the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 to the mix, it’s all over for all but another Demon.
Case in point: this pitiful 2010 Mustang GT500. YouTube channel Wheels brings us this shootout between it and a new Demon. Both happen to be stock, but the GT500 is woefully unprepared (rolling on street tires, no less), and its driver apparently didn’t want to even try their best.
Once upon a time, the 2010 GT500 was a demon in its own right. The 5.4-liter DOHC 32-valve Eaton-supercharged V8 pushed 540 horses and 510 lb-ft of torque through its Tremec six-speed manual to the rear pair of Goodyear Eagles. Paired against today’s hell spawn, however, and you can see where this is going.
On the first run, the GT500 driver spins the tires for some traction, while theĀ Challenger performs a full burnout, its supercharger howling all the way. Once at the line, though, it was no contest. The Demon launches so hard down the quarter-mile its front wheels lift up. Meanwhile, the GT500 crawls to the finish line in 13.33 seconds.
The second run doesn’t go any better. As soon as the green lights are lit, theĀ supercharged Hemi Challenger runs away with the win while the GT500 takes its time (13.14 seconds of it) to travel on its lane.
We know it was likely going to be a losing battle, but it seems like the GT500’s driver gave up before they even arrived for tech. Even the comments section are calling the GT500 driver out for not doing well against the Demon. All we can say is this hellish Challenger needs a better contender than this gelding.
