Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Trounces Everyone: Wicked Wednesday Presented by the All-New Nitto Recon Grappler™ A/T
Dodge Challenger SRT Demon passes the drag racing torch to the Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye at a recent event at the Texas Motorplex.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was built with a singular purpose, to win at the drag strip. It did that. It that a lot. Rarely does a car manufacturer so fully commit to building something to win drag races. It is even more rare that those cars can be found at your local Dodge dealer. Sadly, those days are gone. Dodge is not building the Demon any longer. However, with cars like the Charger Hellcat Redeye that does not mean that Dodge is short on firepower.
This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” presented by Nitto Tire is about a drag race between the Demon and some other rivals. Most notably the aforementioned Charger Hellcat Redeye. This video comes to us courtesy the Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel. What we see is that the Demon is still a formidable foe, but the Charger Hellcat Redeye is a force to be reckoned with.
The First Undercard Race – Dodge vs Dodge
In the first race we get to see the Dodge Demon face off against a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody. One thing is certain, Dodge will be the winner. But which one? The Demon. And it is not even close. The red and black Demon destroys the white Hellcat Widebody that appears to have some sort of issue and backs out of it about a quarter a way down the strip. Strong start for the Demon with a 9.40 second run. It is serving notice that it will not be going down without a fight.
The Second Undercard Race – Redeye vs Trans Am
In this race we get our first look at the green and black Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye. It lines up against a Pontiac Trans Am. The Charger Hellcat Redeye is very quick as it comes from the factory. However, it is obvious that this car is not as it comes from the factory. The specific modifications made to this car are not clear. However, it ran a 9.32 in the quarter mile in this race. That is not a stock time even under the best conditions, so this car has been enhanced for sure. The Pontiac was never a factor here.
The Third Undercard Race – Redeye vs Camaro
This is our second look at the green and black Charger. In this race it faces off against a Chevy Camaro SS. The Camaro has a clean run but takes over three seconds longer than the Charger to cover the quarter mile and was never a factor in the race. The Charger puts down another 9.32 second run. This is a quick and consistent car. We are looking forward to matchup with the Demon.
Another Look at the Demon
The Demon is back. The opponent this time is a Jeep SUV. That might sound like no contest but the Jeep in this case is a 707 horsepower Trackhawk. This race will not be a cakewalk. Just kidding, it is a cakewalk. The Demon absolutely destroys the Jeep. The Demon launches of the line hard enough to pull a wheelie. It rockets down the track and puts down an incredible 9.03 second run. The Jeep runs a 10.9 which is damn impressive in its own right. However, it is no match at all for the drag race specialist Demon. The stage is set for the big matchup between the Demon and the Hellcat.
The Main Event
Darkness has fallen. Track temps are lower. Grip is lower. Can the Charger Hellcat Redeye slay the Demon in this family feud? The cars stage and the lights go green. The Demon driver has a noticeably better reaction time. It is about a car length ahead of the Hellcat before the Hellcat even moves. But when the Hellcat does move, it really moves. At the end of the strip the Demon puts down a 9.60 second run. Far from its best of the day. The Hellcat Redeye takes the win with a 9.42 second run. A close race but the Demon is the loser here.
The Video
Reading about a drag race is not the same as watching it. The video here shows you just how quick these cars get off the line and down the track. Regardless of who the eventual winner was, there is no question that Dodge ruled the day at this event.
