Dodge Prototype Spotted Without Camouflage in Detroit

Witness reports say the car wasn’t making much noise. Could this camo-less Dodge prototype car be an EV or a hybrid?

At the 2022 SEMA show Dodge debuted the concept car for its all-electric Charger Daytona SRT. While that may feel like forever ago at this point, this Dodge prototype spotted driving on a Michigan highway without any sort of camo has taken us right back to that moment. Why? Its design cues are very reminiscent of that concept car and its lack of any visible exhaust components seems to be telling us it’s an EV.

Instagram user Hellrango_nic posted a clip of this vehicle cruising down the interstate in Michigan. Not much information was given other than the Snapchat caption reading “New 2024 Dodge Charger test car being driven up I75 near the Chrysler HQ.” Now, obviously, we know that this isn’t a 2024 model-year car. However, it does share a lot of design similarities to a car that Dodge recently posted on its own Instagram feed that’ll be available later this year.

No Cameras Allowed, and Yet…

In early January 2024, Dodge posted a set of pictures with the following caption:

“No cameras or recording devices permitted. Pre-production model shown. Available late 2024.”

The front-end of the vehicle in the photos is very reminiscent of the Charger EV concept car from SEMA in 2022. Colloquially known as the Banshee, Dodge put it on display with no covers or camouflage for the legendary Las Vegas auto show. However, this is the first time we’re seeing its design cues hit public roadways. Dodge’s pre-production model disclosure tells us that it is indeed a product intended for production. It’s safe to assume that, this far into the year its release is slated, there won’t be many changes from this pre-production model’s design to the full reveal later this year.

In both the video and Dodge’s post, the vehicle appears to have no tailpipes of any sort. Likey, that means we’re looking at an EV. Despite rumors of a twin-turbo V6 muscle car in the works, it’s safe to assume that Stellantis plans to keep pushing Dodge toward an EV future.

A View From the Front

Assuming it is in fact the same car, Dodge posted a couple of shots of it from all angles. Whether or not you’re a fan of EVs, you have to admit that the styling looks pretty dang good. Overall, we’re excited to see what comes of this pre-production car. In less than a year we’ll have all the answers we need!

What do you think? Is it the same car? Is it an EV? Is it a hybrid? Let us know your thoughts on the forums!
