All Hellcat Chargers are impressive on the quarter mile, but this lightly worked Mopar muscle car runs 9.70s and pummels a built Corvette.
The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is the quickest, fastest and most powerful gasoline-powered 4-door car in the world, with the 707 horsepower Hemi helping this big sedan to run the quarter mile in the low 11s while reaching a top speed (in more than a quarter mile) of 204 miles per hour. However, as quick, fast and powerful as the Hellcat Charger is in stock form, simple modifications can make it a whole lot quicker, faster and stronger.
The Hellcat Charger below is a fine example of this, as the 6.2L Hemi under the hood has been fitted with new upper and lower pulleys (thus more boost pressure), JBA catless midpipes, bigger injectors, a Kenne Bell Boost-a-Pump and an E85 tune from Peitz Performance. We don’t get any resulting power numbers, but that doesn’t matter – because this Hellcat Charger stomps every competitor.
The video begins with the heaviest competition, as the Hellcat Charger takes on a very obviously built C6 Corvette. The Corvette looks and sounds far more extreme than the 4-door Dodge, but as soon as the race begins – it is more or less over. The Charger tears out of the hole and takes an early lead, never looking back and beating the Corvette by nearly a full second. On this run, the Hellcat Charger runs a 9.759 at 142.84 miles per hour.
Next up, the Hellcat Charger takes on a current generation Dodge Viper (it appears to be a GTS), and this matchup was even more lopsided. The Viper driver sleeps at the line while the supercharged sedan blasts down the track with a time of 9.841 and a speed of 142.72mph. The Viper ran a losing 12.08 at 123mph.
Finally, the last video shows the Hellcat Charger embarrassing what is obviously a heavily modified Scion FRS. The little Scion runs a 12.77 – which is stunning for an FRS – but the big Dodge runs a 9.789 at 142.69mph.
"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.
"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.
