Jeep Grand Cherokee Redeye

It wasn’t easy but this Jeep Grand Cherokee Redeye sounds absolutely killer. Watch it fire up for the first time.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a ridiculous machine. And we mean that in the best way possible. A supercharged V8 that makes 707 horsepower in an SUV that cost less than $100,000. Insane. But the regular Hellcat engine in the Trackhawk is no longer the top engine in the Mopar stable. The Hellcat Redeye makes a solid 90 horsepower more than the standard unit. That engine is currently not offered in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but that doesn’t mean one doesn’t exist. What you see here is the world’s first Jeep Grand Cherokee Redeye.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” presented by Nitto features this first of its kind Redeye build and the trials and tribulations that go along with it. Being the first at anything is never easy and this Grand Cherokee has not been without its challenges. But like most other vehicles this Jeep will come across, the problems are in the rearview mirror. The video posted on the Khal_SRT YouTube channel shows us the engine getting dropped into the Jeep and fired up for the first time.

Getting it Back Together

In a previous video of this build, we saw that there was a bit of a quality control issue with the first supercharger snout. The results were not pretty, and it required some new bits to be delivered so the engine could be put back together. The new parts have arrived, and the excitement builds as the supercharger is cleaned up and put back together. New gaskets are installed, and the supercharger snout is bolted up. Next up are the fuel rails which are quickly installed.

Now it is time to drop the rebuilt supercharger unit on top of the 6.2L V8. Once it is in place, a few items still remain before the Jeep is road ready. There is a catch can to install and a cold air intake. Most importantly the tune needs to be updated to work with the Redeye engine. But all that can wait. Coolant is added and it is time to see if this bad boy will fire up.

Moment of Truth

After a quick check of the oil level, it is time for the maiden start of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Redeye. And with a push of the starter button the Jeep roars to life. They don’t let it run for very long as there are fluid levels to check and other items to install, but the fact that it fired up without issue is a major win. Now the team puts all the finishing touches on the build so the Jeep can be restarted and run for a longer period of time to make sure there are no leaks.

They drive the Jeep outside to let it run and boy does it sound sweet. The exhaust sounds great, and the engine seems to be running as smooth as silk. There are only two check engine codes and neither of them seem to be anything to worry much about. The world’s first Jeep Grand Cherokee Redeye is ready to be unleashed upon the unsuspecting public.

What’s Next?

A full road test is what is on deck for this awesome build. We cannot wait to see and hear that. This is a wicked Jeep if ever there was one. But for now, we have to settle for the video below which shows us the final stages of getting the engine up to speed and ready to propel this Jeep down the road at a furious pace. We are witnessing history here folks. Wonderful, powerful, Mopar history.
